John
On their calander they had the 15 of Sept blocked out. I called and they are totally booked out for a wedding. And they do not even have a block of 20 rooms available for us except for the week-end of Aug 31- Sept 3. Busy place. And the price for blocking 20 rooms with 2 double beds would be 140.00.

Mike, may I suggest, www.bavarianinnsd.com, located in Custer, they where very nice to me, and the off season rate was in effect for sept.

Thanks for the advice. Bill/Jackson will look into it. He had some other places also that he was going to look into too.

If it looks like there is enough interest, I will volunteer to assist in planning this event. Devanator has also stepped up and said he could assist. Other volunteers will be gleefully accepted! Locations I am considering are Hot Springs and Custer, but there are other options too.
These dates are being considered because:

1. Other meets are being held earlier in the year;

2. There are quite a few afternoon thunderstorms in the Black Hills in May, June, and July;

3. Sturgis affects most of August; and August is HOT, with temps sometimes above 100. :blink:

4. The temperature in September is milder. Here are the average highs/lows in Hot Springs, SD:

August: 86/53

September: 77/42

October: 64/32

Most of the rest of the Black Hills is higher in elevation than Hot Springs, so the temps there will be a few degrees cooler. Early to mid-September is normally very good for bike riding, temperature-wise. And, normally there is very little rain in September, averaging a total of 1.3" for the month. May through July gets three times that amount each month.
If you think you can make it to the Black Hills in September, choose one of the dates in the poll by November 15. After that I will start getting some serious price quotes from some motels, trying to get a good group discount.

Another thing about the weather......... the temperature can vary by 20 degrees either way from the averages above.

That means in September it could be 77+20=97 for a high and 42-20=22 for a low? Whoa!

I'm going to ask an admin to close this poll. I'll take the results and begin serious talks with venues in the Black Hills area. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I don't see an admin option just to close the poll, so I'm going to close the thread. Should be the same effect.
