Just wondering if there is any interest for a 4.5 gallon plug-n-play fuel cell kit for all model year FJR's. I'm confident that I can get the price under $500, which will include all the parts to add an all aluminum setup over the passenger seat, without gas, less than 8lbs in weight. I'm in the process of building a setup for my '04 and turbodaves '06 AE, which will give me all the dimensions needed to cover all model year bikes. I will post photo's of the results on both bikes once they are completed and both thoroughly road tested.

This farkle will have to be in the form of a GB, with a minimum # of participants to make it happen.

Thanks for your consideration. ;)

p.s. If you answer question #2, I reserve the right to not respond below.

Put me down for one for my 05 please... I was just doing the leg work to come up with something that would work. I will be the first on the GB list please.... :yahoo: How many to make it happen?? I have seen your work, and it is top quality stuff. Next question... whats the time line if it works out??

Not sure if I am a LD kinda guy, but I want to look like one!!! Where do I send my deposit!!!!

Thanks Smitty

skyway,

Put it together and get some pics up. Interested in what you come up with. I am in the market if it fits good.

Smitty, this would be early in the new year, with plenty of time before the weather changes. Also, before any GB begins, I will try to hook up with Tom Austin, (due to his location and mine) in the hope of having my prototype approved for the IBA's stringent aux. tank rules.

It will do me no good to proceed with this project, if I can't use it myself. :D

p.s. I tried going the route that you are attempting right now, and IMO every generic racing cell I found, had 1 or more design features that would detract from being optimal for the rear passenger seat location.

Dana, I will post pictures once it's finished and tested. I will make sure that there will be no issues with the final fit. ;)

In fact, I am also aiming to incorporate the functional use of both the Yamaha and Givi top boxes.

That would be a requirement for me. An integrated driver backrest using my padded Givi box would be ****!
Would it be possible to adapt it for other makes/models? (i.e. V-Strom) :)

BTW, Ian - :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

That would be a worthy goal. I already have a BLM fabrication, but if you can offer an alternative that is cheaper, pass IBR standards, and work with top boxes you'd have a great product on your hands.

The cell will no doubt be transferable to another M/C, but you will need a different interface to mount to the bike, and the volume of the cell might come into question if you run it at an IBA sanctioned event.

I'm in the market for this.

Have you thought about putting a cover over it, there's are thread around about custom covers for fuel cells with extra pockets and I belive even a back rest pad built into it?

Chris

Since your asking, :D I have already explored this option with the same company who will be sewing up the hydration kits, so this will be available if the GB proceeds. And yes, I will make several storage options available based on different riders wants/needs.

But only if the other bike has a primary tank bigger than 6.6 gal., right?
Correct.

I'm trying my best to make this setup the swiss army knife of fuel cells, while maintaining the use of other functional accessories I and others already own and use. And most importantly keeping overal cost to a minimum.

It was also TurboDave's idea to add mounts for a Maglite D-Cell flashlight. :shades2:

I'm in!! '06 in the garage.

I haven't had much success with the other fabricators out there. I was ready to just get a 4 gal. cell and be done with it.

Thanks Skyway :yahoo:

I don't need one. I don't really have a use for a fuel cell, unless is comes with a 1.21 jigawatt reactor and can bend space and time. My *** and my bladder can't outlast the stock tank, let alone and add on fuel cell.

Ok, I STILL want one! I'm in. :yahoo:

Can I mount my smuggler on top of it? I don't want no stinkin top case.

If I didn't have to stop, and could bypass Rachael Nevada for gas, after just 100 trips, the fuel cell would even PAY for itself! ;)

I'm in...what's that magic number?

PTP
This will depend on what the total cost of this system ends up being, which I won't know exactly until I get both of these bikes all sorted out. There are still a couple of pieces of the puzzle that need to be fabricated.

That, and I have to show everyone what you'll be getting for your money first.

Ian-

I'm curious about your thoughts on fuel cell attachment and underseat access. Will you be setting the tank up a distance above the passenger seat for seat removal and access? Or, tank mounted to the seat pan? Or, seperate rack mounted to the passenger seat attachment mechanism?

If I can get under the riders seat quickly, count me in :D

Uh Oh. Candy Butt Association founding member #1 is IN.

Now, where do I send my CBA penalty check to? :dribble:

Oh, silly me, to some dude in Sonora, of course! :D
