I am very interested..... I will watch as this unfolds. More fuel would make one less planned stop in my travels.

I am also 'interested' in this...

I planned to build/fabricate do something next summer, but I'm also lazy.

It's only a matter of meeting the following conditions:

a] Easy on, easy off.

b] Cannot be butt ugly

c] The right price point, which it seems you're on target for.

Git-r-Dun.

No photo's until I get the whole thing completely installed. I'm not keen to show off a partially finished farkle.
Throw us a bone man! Just make it a partial reveal... or heavily shadowed so we can use our imaginations... the suspense is killing me! ;)

As for the aluminum welds, is it being done by hand, or machine? Since we don't have any sketches or photos, would you say it somewhat resembles the Tanji cell, or did you go in a completely different direction?

Not yet Groo, only when it's complete and fully installed. As for the quality of the welds, they are freaking awesome. Anyone who can appreciate this skill should hopefully agree immediately upon seeing them. I will post closeup images of them in due course.

The cell does not look at all like a Tanji. I would never steal his design and make my own. ;)

Hang tight, it won't be forever. :D

I'm just as anxious to get it finished as you! :dribble:

Any possiblity at all that I could use it on my FJR with my one piece Corbin seat?

I ride solo and am not adverse to drilling holes...<BG>

My Harley has a two piece seat, and the Triumph will soon.... maybe those would work... :D

Those need bigger tanks... Triumph only has a 4.5 gal tank, the Herley 5 gal .... :(

Well... can't have that, now! I'll throw ya a bone.......

Skyway's cell may look nothing like the following. Or, it might resemble it to a fair degree once it's all done.

But if you're going to have a 4.8-gallon cell sitting on the pillion seat of an FJR that must fit within the rails of a Givi rack and still allow the Givi box to open without striking the cell.... then it's probably going to look at least somewhat like the following.....

Some serious storage area here!

The cavern created by the enclosure. This opening you are looking through will comprise the "door" of the storage area, which as you can see will simply be velcro-ed in place, letting the seat act as the door "lock":

Below Photo Perspective: You are standing on the right side of the bike, looking into the undertank storage area that has 3 of the 4 walls installed (you are looking through what will be the forth wall.) Large white rectangular component on the right is the pilot's seat pan poking through the "door" of the storage area:

There... will these photos throw ya a big enough bone? ;)

I'm also using a 1 piece Corbin, but this setup is designed for the rear seat to be removed. The cell could be mounted on the rear seat with drilling, tie downs etc, though it wouldn't be my first choice.

But, with a cover sewn over....?

Once I post some pictures, it will become clear if you want to go this route.

Skyway, are you becoming the new "Group buy leader from Hell"?

This will be it, prior to the weather turning hot again. When there are multiple vendor$ involved, for me, it can only be done this way.

This will also probably be the last farkle I construct for the FJR,(that I can think of right now anyway  ) since my bike will now have every accessory I need for it. At least that I couldn't go buy off the shelf anyway.

I'll let you in on a little secret, it's MUCH EASIER to just make 1 piece for yourself and then use TWN's favorite smiley at everyone else. :D

I am quietly eyeing up another bike (Which I know is blasphemous to mention on a 1 bike oriented forum) and this may or may not become the focus of any future projects.

Though for now the FJR is staying in my garage, as I really like this bike for everything I do on-road.

What you eyeing? The 14 GTR?

What you eyeing? The 14 GTR?
I did eye the connie at the show for a short while,(it's even uglier in the flesh IMO :bad: ) and unless it's something short of spectacular to ride over my FJR and super reliable, I'm sticking with the devil I know. The FJR just plain works/fits real good for me and I trust it to head out for any distance.

My FJR has also allowed me to push out in 24hrs and accumulate more miles than some here even have for total mileage on their bike. The bike is plenty fast and I've embarrassed many a squid along a windy road. I'm not ready to plunk down upward of 18K for a bike and farkles to arrive at something close to what I have already. I'm not doubting the connie will be faster, but speed is only part of the equation for me.

Now, if the difference between the 2 was the old connie to the new connie, I'd probably be getting in line. And this is exactly why kawasaki is building this bike now, as their many years late by not introducing anything new, bad move on their part. And as a result lots of previous gen1 connie owners who would have been connie14 faithful are now either very happy FJR owners or something different. Kawasaki is playing catch-up with this bike and It'll be interesting to sit back and see how well it's received.

So with my road bike almost all farkled up, the last major mechanical piece being the fuel cell, I'm now quietly looking for dual sport rig for an Alaska trip. Right now, I'm not sure which way I'll go, but will let you know when I find something.

And I'll be patiently waiting to jump on the coattails of the platform you pick, as I'm sure it will receive all the right bits, fabbed or otherwise.
Once again, procrastination looks to pay off well!

Well Skyway..... We are still hoping for a few pictures :dribble: ..... How is this project going????? Smitty

Hi Smitty, nothing new to report as of today. I hope you understand that showing a partially finished product is never good for sales. :)

In the meantime I'm thinking about lots of different storage options that could be used as part of the fuel cell cover. My local seamstress has an abundance of materials and attachment options at her disposal, so I'm looking closely at what can be best utilized for a rider who may be heading out on a long journey.

I will let you guys see my bike once it's finished and tested before I get TurboDaves AE assembled.

An update just for you Smitty! :D

I can now confirm the fitment of both the Yamaha and Givi top boxes on my '04 without any interference with the prototype cell. Both top box lids also hinge completely open without any contact of the cell. :yahoo:

That's one major design consideration achieved. :clapping:

I'm surprised to find that the mounting kit I've designed is almost identical to accommodate both setup's. I'm about 90% certain that the whole thing can be removed with 2 bolts.
