Can you fella's down in Georgia give me some info on Acworth area and how it is to live and work down there??? Also how is the riding??? Possible move for work next spring......

Acworth is just a hop from some great roads. I live near Birmingham, AL but I head to North GA for better riding.

Look up some ride reports by GeorgiaRoller for a taste of some riding and hiking in north Georgia.

<making a mental note> schedule FJR Tech day before MNFJR moves South.

Bummer to see you might be leaving the area M., but glad to see work is going so well.

So CFO will have to be your farewell weekend ride together. And I suppose you plan on riding to Georgia with another brand new set of tires aren't you.

If you're concerned about what riding might be like down there, I think you're going to love it!

Not going to miss CFO this year, hopefully not a farewell ride but meeting up elsewhere in the future. And yes I feel a new set of tires coming my way, will bring the straps just in case!!!!

My ex-girlfried moved there after we broke up. Stayed in touch for a while, she seemed to really like it and was successful in business there as well.

One of my best friends lives in Acworth. I've visited him a few times and it seems a nice place to live. There are some nice roads around there and it is not very far from the north GA mountains.

Ackworth is right on Lake Allatoona and is in a nice, but busy/populated area. However being north of Atlanta as was mentioned your less than a 1hr ride from the start of the Appalachians and really good mtn riding area's. Downtown Ackworth is small but has some nice restaurants and summer activities going on and the beautiful lake is right there.

The only drawback imo is the traffic at times. I'm more of a country guy so if it was me I'd prob. try to live just north of Ackworth in the country more. Just 15min north of Ackworth is pretty quiet so you don't have to go very far. But if your more of a city guy you'd be fine. Kennesaw is just south of Ackworth and is much more busy and it just gets more busy as you keep going south towards Marietta then Atlanta.

Coming from MN it would be a night/day difference in living. I used to live in MI for 25yrs....once you move south and can ride comfortably 10 months a year....you'll never want to live in the frozen north ever again!

Well we have lived in the Atlanta area for just over 18 years now and enjoy it. As far as fun and enjoyment goes, you will have access to some great roads all within a day’s ride without trouble. You can even make a day trip out of doing the Dragon (mind you a long day but it can be done). Lots of nice roads across the mountains and I’d guess a lot longer riding season than MN.

As far as work goes, living close to the I-75 corridor means LOTs of traffic on a regular basis if you have to use I-75 for any portion of your commute. You will want to spend some time looking at different areas and how they affect your commute before deciding on a place to live. Believe it or not, the daily commute can really make or break it as far as liking the area. After a while you get used to it but for people visiting, they can have a hard time. Driving in the Atlanta area is very aggressive and fast paced. Some people are OK with it and others not so much. We moved here from the Dallas TX area so traffic and heat were not a big surprise.

Not trying to scare you off or anything, it’s just the daily commute in and around Atlanta can be extremely stressful. Atlanta is an old city and does not offer the kind of alternate paths to get places like a modern “grid” style city. Typically to get anywhere you need to traverse the interstates and they are always full. Add any kind of hiccup, and you can sit for hours in traffic. A 25 mile commute can easily run close to an hour. Can tell you one of the few things that help deal with kind of madness is the ability to saddle up on Saturday and within an hour; be in the mountains enjoying the ride.
