I have a 2005 FJR with 42000 miles on the odo. have owned her since new. many many mods over the years including a Power Commander IIIusb. Bike has run flawlessly for all these years until last week when it decided to not idle at any RPM's below approximately 1400-1500. When trying to get it to idle at the normal 1100 it would start and run for a few seconds and then die. I decided to increase the idle RPM to 1500 just to get to drive the thing and ran well at all speeds and RPM's. During trouble shooting I replaced the TPS, Spark plugs, did a TBS sync, etc. Still no joy. Even went into the Power Commander fuel map and all seemed as initially programmed. Decided to remove the Power Commander and now all is well again. Seems to me some thing in the Power Commander went astray and was affecting the fuel delivery at RPM's below 1400-1500. Plan to call the Power Commander folks tomorrow and see what their words of wisdom might be!

I'll do that. I installed the unit in early 2006 and it has worked well since then until this issue appeared. I was sort of surprised at the symptoms the bike displayed thinking that the PCIII would either 'work or not work' as they say. Oh well, I'm sure they have seen this before for all the years it's been available.

I remember that if the PC is not properly earthed all kinds of funky things can happen. The PC earth wire is a bit flimsy so double check it. It should also be connected directly to the Battery -ve.

I did check that both the physical and electrical ground connection was good and it is (has been for 6 years!) connected directly to the negative post of the battery.

Last time I worked with them they were very good. I had one for my TLR and there were some known issues with it for the TLR. I'd actually picked it up on ebay for super cheap as I think the previous owner was having problems with it and dumped it out there. I picked it up and then tried it, confirmed issues, called Power Commander and they had me send it in and I had it back all fixed and working awesome in a very short time. Too bad the ebay seller didn't know it was so easy to fix.

Here's hoping you have the same experience.

I bought a used one from another member. When I installed it, it did not work. I contacted the powercommander folks. They told me since it was out of warranty and I was not the origional owner they could do nothing for me. I ended up buying a new one. Has worked well for me.

Since you are the origional buyer of the unit, they may be more sympathetic to your cause.

Hornet Pilot, I just stumbled onto your thread again (I see I'd posted in this thread years ago).

I've just recently started experiencing what sound like the exact same symptoms as you describe, and have checked/done many of the same things before unplugging the PCIII USB. My PCIII unit is over 8 years old and has done (b/w two FJRs) over 250k miles with zero issues, so I can't really be too upset if it's time to upgrade.

So far in the garage, the FJR seems to be be idling better, but I'm still not sure if at 208k miles the O2 Sensor might not be working at 100%, just not sure if or how that can be properly tested, before forking out the big bucks on a new O2 Sensor.
