I-80 is one boring highway but blessed with a 75 mile per hour speed limit. From experience I can tell you they do have cops in Nevada and no program to take an internet course to work your ticket off your record...
That's part of the beauty of riding across US50. There, you're more likely than not to get a Rural Speed (linked reference should show up at the top of the new page) ticket, which is NOT considered a moving violation. Unfortunately, this statute doesn't apply to the 75 MPH zones on the interstate, but does apply in 65 & 70 zone you'll find near Elko & Wells for example. I'm not sure about the 70 zone near Ferley. Depends on the county population there.

Thanks for the tip. 50 it is.

hmm. Last time I rode 50 it was spring of, 1980? I recall the Kz1300 was one year old.. and that ride simply ROCKED. I'm ready to re-explore that road..

Being a nevada hick who loves to ride motorsickles in this great state.....

We find all kinds of ways to entertain ourselves. Believe it or not, *some* of these ways don't involve dressing farm animals up in women's clothing.

Hwy 50 and surrounding areas have sooo many great points of interests and diversions to have fun on the bike.

I may not spill all the beans as I don't want to incriminate myself ....but I'll throw a few out here as WFO gets closer closer and closer ...

-I already threw one out earlier in the thread ...Here is #2.

**Ever been in 3 counties in less than two minutes? You and your FJR can if you know where to go and crank it up to 120ish MPH

From hwy 50 take 361 toward Gabbs (Gabbs is home of an amazing yearly tarantula migration BTW ...another site to not be missed)

Look at the map (below) and you'll see Churchill County; Mineral County and Nye County all come together in a unique triangle that is intersected by 361.

Crank up your FJR and you can do this in under 2minutes .....Not sure if there is another spot where such a feat can be done while going in a relatively straight line (a couple of mild sweepers). Best of all, no farm animals will be embarrassed in this activity.

A thousand more silly things that renojohn can point you hwy50 bound boys and girls to

....maybe I should lead a trip from Reno to WFO say leaving very early wednesday for a 800ish mile jaunt to WFO. Hot springs, silver mine tour, tarantulas, dinosaurs, castles, shoe trees, real cowboys and pony express stations to name just a few of the things we'd see.

But don't forget to bring some women's clothing for the animals ...that is when the *real nevada* fun starts.

Not for everyone, you must have a sense of adventure, not be shy of a little dirt, be ready to hit some triple digits and scrape the pegs a few times. Also helps if you leave your anal retentive senses and morality at home. Surreal experiences is what you'll encounter. OH, did I mention the free nevada grown lithium?

#2 on the renojohn points of interest list:

Thanks for the great route tips- Do any of those 1001 things involve reenacted scenes from "Deliverence" ----- :assassin: Reno John - Where do you do your scuba diving?

I am not sure RenoJohn scuba dives, but he might. A few times, I have noticed RenoJohn and I being mixed up on the forum since we are both John and in Reno.

If, the question was meant for me (John T) I dive a lot at Lake Tahoe with students. I try to make the trip to Monterey Bay, CA twice a year to go diving. However, since I have been in school getting my MBA I have not had the time. I am looking forward to going to Monterey next year. The little free time I have this year is going to be used going to WFO.

Do you dive?

If anyone is passing though Reno, NV on the way let me know we can head out together. I have not decided if I am going to leave very early on Thursday to get to Park City before 4pm check in, or leave Wednesday.

Yep, it seems to happen a lot. Probably easy on the internet, but less likey happen to in real life as there are obvious differentials. I'll list a few and perhaps that will help folks out ...hence allowing John T to avoid the embarrassment.

John T is very nice, thoughtful and considerate in his thoughts, words and actions

RenoJohn is a prick who could really give a **** ...

John T is disciplined in his riding and scuba adventures

RenoJohn is immature, juvenile in spirit and a "fair" swimmer

John T has a new beautiful FJR with no clutch lever

RenoJohn has an old rust-bucket FJR -dirty with abuse

John T has been arrested and imprisoned for riding a stolen motorcyle

RenoJohn has yet to get caught.

Perhaps this will help avoid any further confusion.

How embarassing -- me bad. perhaps Reno John could change his name to say " Raider John " I am a relative newbie to diving with an advanced cert but am heading to Cozumel this week and hope to get in 12 or so dives. I would love to try Monterey some time but am anxious that the water is cold and you can't pee in a dry suit. Ha. Back to the motorcycle thing, the pillion and I leaving for Park City on wednesday afternoon and hope to stop in Fallon or so for a Thursday blast across 50. Would love to link up with some fellow riders, though my previous relationships with Nevada law encforcement may make it a semi safe and sane ride. Brian

This is funny, well most of it.

"John T has been arrested and imprisoned for riding a stolen motorcyle"

This was not very funny when it happened. Since time as past I guess I can laugh at it now.

Link for those who don't get the joke.

Let me know what your plans are and we might be able to meet up in Reno to Fallon if that is your stop point.

My original plan was to take 80 to Park City to get there by 4pm and take 50 home. However, I am open to whatever plan others already have.
