I now have a little over 1,000 miles on the '05 bike since getting it back from shop at 18,300 miles when "The Tick" was repaired.

I am very pleased to report the bike is running STRONG. Where I really notice it is in 5th gear and rolling on the throttle. The bike just JUMPS now.

It really was down on power before the fix but it happened so gradually I just didn't notice it.

Taking off from stop signs and lights is once again a real HOOT.

Damn I love riding this FJR..

So when is the ride to the Hill Country. I can tag along, can't I? :D

Hey fjrmgm,Is there a breakin period where you couldn't exceed certain rpm's.

I'm still waiting on my bike. The're having to replace the timing chain tensioner and with my luck it's probably coming from japan.

Glad to hear your bike is running so well.

trimmantom - yes, the dealer told me to act like I was breaking it in again as far as rpm's so I took it easier for the first 800 miles and then gradually went up from there. Still not full throttle yet at 1k miles but working up to it.

Running STRONG...

Dang, I stopped at a stop sign this morning at a T intersection and turned left, shifted to second and gave it some, but not a lot of gas and the rear tire broke loose on the wet pavement. A slight pucket moment there.

Mike,

I might need your calibrated/experienced ear to listen to my bike. I'm probably being paranoid, but it sure sounds like I've got some kind of tapping going on lately. Give me a buzz when you're free.

Groo,If you bring your throttle up to a steady 2500-3000 rpm's and hear a metal type glattering on the left side near #1& #2 cylinders theres a good chance you've got excessive exhaust valve guide wear, and with time and miles it will get louder.

Not all tickers have an RPM setting where it's extra loud or extra noticeable. My original ticker did, but now as a re-ticker (ticking 6K miles after a tick repair) it does not have such a setting - at least, not yet. And now it's being re-fixed so (hopefully) I'll never know.

As for the increase in power, that was my experience also. I only have my butt for a dyno, but I had the same sensation of, well, "Damn!" It felt like I'd grabbed another gear: I could do things in 5th that I used to have to go to 4th for. Another way to say that is, it's like I'd grabbed an extra 1K RPM: during acceleration, I'd get the "afterburners" power boost feeling 1K sooner than before the repair.

I listened to Groo's FJR this afternoon and it had NO sounds like mine was making when it ticked.

As I pointed out to him, the tick is a "hard" clacking sound sound and not the "chuff" the injectors make.

Mike - they replaced all the exhaust valves, guides and guide seals. No head replacement.

I now have 20,800 miles on it and amazed at how much stronger it pulls in 5th gear.

Ride on, Dan.

Mike
