Just got my Givi luggage rack and FJR dash shelf back from Garauld. Talk about a sweet powder coating job.

I had them both done in a satin black. The Givi is a dramatic change from its original silver. At first glance the FJR shelf doesn't look much different but the finish is much tougher than the original painted finish was. Two thumbs up!

I only wish G had an oven big enough to do wheels. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Who said I can't do wheels? $50 plus return shipping. I just did a pair of GSXR rims the other day. Here's a piccy of them - they were done in matte (3% gloss) black:

I was thinking of doing mine this winter - possibly semi gloss black. Bounce - do you want them done to match your Givi rack?

Nice job on the Gixxer rims. I have powder coated rims on my R1. I would do my FJR if it wasn't for all the frigin bearings you have to buy.

SHWEET! yes. just like the rack! my wallet is scared.

As for prep, I can assume tire, wheel weight, and valve stem removal. Anything else?

Nice job.

I have in-laws in Binghamton, so I won't be seeing your work any time soon.

Very nice job Gary How would this finish compare to the original Silver on my 05? Smoother more consistant and easier to clean? that's what I'm looking for, could you advise what my finish options are? Thank's

As these were done for a dude that had his bike all apart, it won't be spring before I get any feedback. As far as finishes go, this Matte black was pretty smooth, although the satin black I use for racks and brackets is even smoother and I think, would hide brake dust nicely. That's what I plan to use when I do mine. I even have some far out vintage 60's Haight Ashbury colors if you are so inclined....

Oh my...

Might be worth picking up a set of wheels of fleabay first...

So what all bearings to you need and can us mere mortals pull them and set/press in new ones?

The brake dust and other issues are why I was a naysayer when so many were going ga-ga over the silver rims in 04. After years of silver rims on Wings, I knew better. Moving from a semi-gloss black paint to a satin black powder coating will be the kit's tits.

Folks-

I just saw the 2009 FJR at the Internat motorcycle show here in Seattle. I need to have my 2008 with black rims! I LOVE the black rims of the '09. So - how difficult would it be to remove the front and back wheels and prep them for powder coating? Is there any additional expenses for new parts when you do this (seals, bearings, lube etc).

Grazi

Scott
