"Why Yamaha delivered a machine which was so broken in its ECU behaviour is another matter!"

Good question, other manufactures seem to be able to.

Those in this post with pre 08 models have had your ECU's replaced via your dealer, correct? Since I had mine replaced no throttle issues whatsoever. PM. <>< :D

I installed the PC-III on my bike and also did the throttle spring mod on my 2006, and all I can say is if you spend any money on your FJR, by a PC III. It comes incredibly lean from the factory and you won't believe what the PC-III will do for you.

The issues described never bothered me nearly as much as some but I've done all the fixes anyway (except I did a Fred shim instead of the G2). My bike is a dream to ride now. So in summary:

Spring unwound 1 turn

PCIII with Wally map and O2 disconnected

Fred Shim

New ECU

Barb Mod at +7

Idle at 1,100 (which kinda bothers me as my brain thinks it's too high but I'm leaving it for now)

No more 4,100 RPM buzz (which again, was minor compared to other bikes I've owned)

No more lean surge or throttle issues what so ever.

Couldn't agree more!

New ECU (installed before I picked it up)

I did the G2

Released throttle spring one turn

Added PCIII and disconnected 02 sensor (biggest improvement)

Just had the throttle bodies balanced for the first time.

All these things have made the bike a great. But the biggest improvement has been the PCIII. I never did the barbarian mod and probably won't because I am happy with it now.

I have looked at the PCIII mod install on the fjrtech website and just wanted to know if there were any major changes/additional steps for an '06 since the bike used in the pics was older. Also have looked in several places for the Wally smoothness map but can't find the source of how to get it. Is it a direct download from a site or purchased separately? Thanks for any help or further suggestions.

It's very straight forward. I think the O2 sensor harness is slightly different, but I did find a picture of it on the tech site as well. Here is a link that shows it...

Other than that, its a very easy job to find the harness to plug into. You can also find a link to instructions on taking off the gas tank, "T" bar and heat shield. Once you have them off - it's a piece of cake. While you're under there, you might want to synch the throttle bodies if you have access to a synch tool. I bought one at the same time I bought the PowerCommander.

Good luck.

I totally agree. I tried the other "fixes" mentioned on the forum and synced the throttle bodies but I still had the low speed throttle jerkiness. I installed the PC-III and it's been smoooooth ever since.

Which makes me think that maybe we should all be getting a recall. This is me holding my breath. :sicksmiley:

Yamaha is not doing a recall on the ECU replacements. The proceedure is call your dealer, let them know your VIN and if its included in the range of numbers, which it is if its an 06 or 07 and you bring your bike in for the 30 - 40 min swap when they get the part if they don't have it already. I waited while they did mine. Of note, there were some members here who got their new ECU and did the changeout themselves. Yamaha does want the old ECU back though.

Im getting ready to do a throttle body sync and replace the plugs with the NGK Iridiums but really the bike is running great right now with no off throttle issues, stumbles, jerking or stalls, even at altitude now since the new ECU. But I have to keep current on services in case any warrantee issues arise.

I might add when I got the Iridium plugs it said "do not gap Iridium plugs as you will break the center electrode" so I'll just take their word for that and leave the gap alone. Going to Alice's Resturant where you can get anything you want, um that sounds likt it could be a song..this Saturday with some of my sport-bike buds, then go down the hill and cruise the coast for a while, their on Gixxers and such so I took my bags off and put my stock window back on to look cool. .....Oh well, we'll try and give it a good test. PM. <>< ;)
