Power Commander for the FJR... in a nutshell, what are the gains?

I have posted several times about the benifits of the PCIII.

I have one on both of my bikes, 2005 FJR, and 2004 DL1000.

The difference in drivability is unquestionable. Is there a HP gain? I doubt it.

On the DL1000 there was a definite shudder between 2500 and 3500 RPM's, and just a general lean condition up to about 4000 RPM. PCIII cured all, and smoothed out the entire RPM range. Lost about 2MPG, a small price to pay.

On the FJR I had abrupt transitions between open and closed throttle, not scary abrupt, just not as smooth as I would like. Accelleration, while smoother than the V twin, was not as smooth as I would like. I just did not have the ability to control the throttle as well as I would expect on an inline4. PCIII/Wally Map fixed it all right up. I now feel "in control" of the throttle, it is smooth as glass and no abruptness what so ever. I installed the unit pretty soon after I got the FJR so I don't know my original fuel economy, I get around 38 to 44 MPG now.

I could have ridden either bike PD, (Pre DynoJet) but I believe the PCIII is the best money I have spent.

So all the responses and how many have made the change or is most of the info just opinion? I have and 03 since July of 02. The low speed surge was horrible. So the PC corrected this issue with about a 10 per cent loss in mileage. I still get 38-42 depending on whether it is commutin or road riding and just how hard you twist the throttle. Out of Ca. as the gas changes I can get 42-46 constant.theNow the newer year models may not have the surge. Some can live with it , i just didn't want to have the minor irritable surging. After I added cans then a header w/o the cats, yes even the early bikes had cats and all run too lean because of the state standards in Ca., a custom map gave me 6hp gain and a power band so smooth through all ranges of rpm's that in my case it was well worth the time $ and to do so. Is is necessary? Many may think not but some can justify the results. If I had no issues I wouldn't mess with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I have yet to see a post from the owner of an '06-'07 A model who does not appreciate the change in performance that the PCIII provides - most are delighted. As far as I know, no one has taken one off after installing it because he's dissatisfied with its performance.

The posts doubting the PCIII benefits that I've seen are, charitably speaking, not based on experience.
i would like to know how many happy customers of the pcIII also have the y.e.s. warranty; and of those, how many have taken their fjr in for service with the pcIII installed; and of those, how many needed warranty work.

sorry, i ask a lot of questions. ( : but i am a bit leery of purchasing the pcIII since i've plunked down $$ on the y.e.s....

Everybody talks about loss of MPG with the PCIII. As far as I am concerned, that extra 2 MPG was a loan. A freebie. A temporary gift. Something Yammie never should have given us in the first place.

Just assume the bike never came with 40 MPG, just 38. Would any of us have not bought the bike? Naaaah.

Besides, the bike has a 1.3 liter motor in it for cryin out loud!!! You want mileage - there's a Vespa somewhere out there with your name on it!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

My mileage has actually been better so far since installing the PCIII. Before the PCIII with the barbarian mod +5 I was getting about 38mpg. I only have 1 good ride since installing the PCIII and setting the CO settings back to stock, but I am getting about 47mpg now. We'll see if that continues.

funny thing... of all the things I worry about on my bike,

MPG is not even on the radar.

If you run back roads it does creep much higher on the radar screen. Especially in if you ride Sundays along the Appalachians. I also have seen an increase in MPG with the PCIII except when I start cruising above 80mph when it starts to head for 40mpg and I'm not light on the throttle.

Also, IMO PCIII and YES is a non-issue.

MPG... what's that??? Miles-Per-Grin???

There's two things I did not buy an FJR for, MPG or putting around.

I spent close to an hour installing the PC-III, getting everything just the way I wanted it. Bet I could remove it in under 5 minutes. So if I have some warranty issue related to the engine, I'll just snatch that baby off and put it back stock, pronto.

My $.02

Look at the whole picture from a dealers standpoint. If someone came in for warranty work or just normal service, why would you even want to start a dispute? You would be happy to get the service job and get paid for it, as opposed to opening a can of worms and pissing off the customer. And yes, I have Y.E.S. and a PCIII.

With gas at near $4.00/gal you don't care about MPG?

Wanted: Rich, Adoptive Uncle(s) who can top-off my gas tank with cash. Please call 1-800-IAM-POOR.

Not to change this into a gas mileage thread, but at two fills/week+/-, I'm spending around $40/week  just to feed the FJR ($3.50 at 5.5 gals ave. fill-up). Please, adopt me ASAP! :)

Hi Zoltan - Glad I saw this post from you as I have a DL 1000 and recently got the FJR 1300 2005 and am wondering whether to fit it. It is already quite smooth, but hesitates in the 3000 to 6000 area and I wanted to smooth that out and optimise for good touring economy - maybe start with Wally's smoothness map.

However economy is quite important to me as I do long tours with long days and extra economy would be good.

I can resist using the extra so do you think it will improve the economy ( it did significantly on my DL 1000 and the power but not at the same time !!)

Thanks

Nick

I'm a homebuilder. Can't haul a sheet of plywood on a bike... so got a pickup. It costs $70 to fill my tank. I bought my FJR purely for rippin' up twisties. Could care less what kind of mileage it gets.

So, wha'cher sayin' is, the adoption papers are signed? :dntknw:
