Im runnng my Power Commander with K&N filter, all else stock and O2 disconnected. I loaded a profile into the PCIII that fits that description and the bike runs great. I did lose about 10mpg but its worth it for the performance. I live in AZ at an altitiude of right around 1000ft. I also own a home in Show Low AZ, at around 7000ft. I rode the bike up there for the first time ever so I cant compare pre PCIII performance at altitude but heres what I found.

At 1000 ft 100 degrees the bike is getting around 40 mpg mixed slab and local, performance is off the chart fun

At 7000 ft 80 degrees the mph have climed back up to 48 mpg mixed riding but the performance is noticably sluggish in comparison.

Thats not what I had expected to happen and I think I need some clarification. I was under the impression that with the O2 sensor disconnected I would be running rich at altitude. I expected the performance to suffer but I didnt expect to see MPG get so much better.

Is the O2 sensors job what I assume it is, to control air fuel mixture?

I know Temp effects density altitiude, is it possible the whole difference is not altitude related at all and when the temp drops to 80 in the valley I'll see similar. Although, It has been in the 70s and 80s for my ride to work and perfomance is really awsome.

Is this the norm when using a PCIII?

Should I be running a leaner PCIII profile when I get to elevation if I plan on staying for a few days?

If I should run a leaner profile, is there a table or has anyone figured out how to edit a profile that you like to work at altitude? Like a formula that you plug in to edit a profile per 1000 feet for instance.?

I know that I'm tossing alot out there but I thought this would be intresting for all the new PCIII owners especially right after the group buy. I'll be heading up next weekend again and would love to be able to test any suggestions that you guys can come up with.

By the way all MPG are calculated and actual, I know not to trust the bike display since installing the PCIII especially!

wow, i threw this out there hours ago and NOTHING? I know I didnt stump you guys, is this actually a question that no one has an answer to.

WAIT A DARN MINUTE, AM I BEING BLACK BALLED BECAUSE OF THE NEW BANNER? <_<

Edit: I was responding with the below before Mr. impatient who not only NEVER rides with the rest of us Zonies, but sure as hell has never invited me up to his place in Show Low posted his 'whine' directly above. Geese, ya know the 'all knowing and powerful' types like me :D can't be on the forum ALL the time. Iffin you would have gone back and read every one of my 4500+ posts  you would have found where I have gone over this subject matter already. Oh yeah, and I also moved the topic to it's proper home. Free of charge. Jut cause I like ya.

Everything normal here dude.

Regardless of whether you are running a PCIII or not, the FJR's fuel injection compensates for changes in altitude (or pressure) and temperature. They FJR has sensors for both pressure and temperature, and adjusts the fuel injection map accordingly whether you are running stock or with the PCIII.

When you go up in altitude, ambient air pressure goes down. Less air. Less air means less power made by the engine (sluggish performance). Less air also means less fuel being burned, and the biggie - less air resistance. So fuel mileage goes up.

No, it's just that your contribution to question ratio account may have edge too far into the red. You certainly became overdrawn in the karma department with the banner ad thing, and it's possible people are waiting for you to provide more deep and considered advice in other threads to pay the bill.

...or we could pass the time with people adding flippant crap like this post? ;)

Thanks, I was under the impression that the O2 sensor was responsable for letting the Fej know what what altitude the bike is at. Its disconnected now with the PCIII installed. Ill Im you about playing with the rest of the zonies.

Higher altitude = less air density = less horsepower

Just as pointed out already/above.

Higher altitude = less air density = less drag

Just as pointed out by the SR-71 Blackbird

Let us know through your careful, meticulous and scientific analysis which one has the most effect, and the net result of each combined in acceleration, fuel economy, torque and aerodynamic braking coefficients.

Please don't let this stump you or deter your efforts.

We wanna know, and I'm WAY too lazy to do it myself.

:)

O2 sensor is a 'back end' sensor that under certain conditions will adjust the fuel injection to maintain a desired A/F ratio (by CO %) to meet emissions targets.

The pressure and temperature sensor are 'front end' sensors. They make adjustments to the fuel injection regardless of what is happening on the back end (PCIII). The O2 sensor will override everything else (pressure and temperature sensor adjustments) to obtain it's final emissions goals. That is why you disconnect it when adding the PCIII. If you left it connected, it would be trying to cancel what the PCIII is doing.

So when you are holding a BBQ for all us Zonies at your place up in Show Low? :D

I dont think so, I contribute all the time and usually ask worth while questions when I do ask. As for this one, I did a search and couldnt find anything. You obviously dont have anything better to do and dont have an answer so if your looking for the perfect example of FLIPPANT CRAP, you can just sit here and reread your response. Better yet, Just sit back and enjoy the new banner. :glare:

Uhhhh.............I think you missed the tone of Iggy's post entirely. Iffin you had truly understood it, you would have realized that the only appropriate response to him would have been:

:****:

And not the diatribe you layed down.

Would love to have everybody up to Show Low, unfortunatley, its just a 100 X 100 lot in a place called white mountain vacation village. I own a 36 ft 5th wheel that I leave up there all the time. Not exactly a place to have a party or room to have more then a few people. Im really into Quading and Snowboarding, its a place to sleep when I go up to play.

PARTY!!!! I bet we could make do!

So, what the hell is 'Quading'?

And do you know what a snowboarder is?

I found that after living in Colorado, that altitude with the loss of O2,not only makes one lose power. It can also effect the ability to control their attitude under pressure as well.

Oh, a wise guy ay...............

This is a quad,

We ride in the woods up there, mostly trail. Lots of fun, we just refere to it as QUADING.

As for Snowboarding, I had been skiing since I was 4, 21 years. Then I moved to AZ and tried Boarding back in 86. I got to the bottom of the hill and gave my ski equipment away, I knew Id never use it again. So to answer your question "And do you know what a snowboarder is?"

correctly.
