Okay, I need power in my topbox for recharging phones, et al, and I need to put a light in there for seeing stuff at night. I have a fuse box under the seat that I will draw power from. I need ideas on what to put into the topbox. Should I just run an SAE connector up through the bottom of the box and run a dual USB plug or should I use a weather pack connection of some kind, or what? You guys who have run the Butt Lite or IBR usually have good ideas, so gimme some help.

Better yet, you could wait till the hurricane passes, and come do it for me...bring everything you will need to do a good job. Your work will be graded.

Here is what I used..https://www.solarseller.com/low_voltage_dc_pumps__lvm__teel__accessories__plugs_and_extensions.htm#sae_rv_roof_connector_with_cover

The SAE connector is on the outside of the Givi top box. I soldered a cigarette lighter style connector to the leads on the inside to connect to. The only draw back is the leads on the inside are 10 gauge which is way overkill for our needs.

I ran a 10" SAE charge plug from my fuse box and then connected a longer 3' section of wire with a SAE plug under the rear seat. Then I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the case to pass the bare wire through and "weatherproofed" the hole with hot glue. Inside of the case I have a 12V Cig lighter port I had laying around and a dual 2.1 USB cig adapter.

My thoughts were that a quick disconnect plug under the seat made it easier in the rare event that I take the top case off. Rationale for the cig lighter port is that I haven't seen SAE USB attachments that charge at 2.1A let alone a dual port at that rating. Most of them are singe 500ma.

I took the lazy way on lights and have one of these hanging in the lid.

I may try the RV port Brian shows, and combine it with the multiple SAE cords under the seat trick. I seldom take the top box off, but like everything else, if you can't take it off easily, Fate will ensure that you need to take it off frequently.

Bseelbach: I have used one of those 'push on/off', stick on, battery powered lights they are always advertising on TV for the last several years, and it works beautifully...usually. Sometimes I get too much stuff in the top box (from changing clothes due to weather) and the light gets turned on accidentally. So I may look for a hanging light similar to those.

Thanks.. ordered from Amazon!!

This thread reminded me of my quest to get power both to the top case and tank bag.

I found the following which may be of assistance, I like the SAE to dual USB with voltmeter unit towards the bottom of the list. Some are 2.1 x2 some are 1v and 2.1v some are dual 3.1 (one of the comments on one of these said it only put out 2.1 YMMV)

Here's a similar dual USB for half the price. I prefer the ones with a longer cord like this, not so fond of the other one with 6 inches from the USB plug to the SAE connector.
