I lost a friend yesterday. Joel Hess was riding with the Des Moines chapter of the Star motorcycle club on a group ride. Two bikes in the group tangled, struck a car and went down. Joel was struck and killed by a semi. The other rider was hospitalized. This is made even more tragic by the fact that Joel had just gotten back into riding in the last year to deal with the death of his beloved wife Lisa from ALS. June 16th would have been Joel's birthday, his 55th I believe.

Please offer your prayers for Joel, the other rider and those in the group who witnessed this terrible event.

Ride on, brother. You will be missed. I'm sure Lisa and others are welcoming you home.

Very sad. I'm originally from Des Moines. Find peace Joel. My prayers are with you and your fellow riders.

Ah man...my heart breaks...prayers, condolences, concern for Joel's family and friends

and for your too Craig...thanx for sharing...that's what we're here for

<sigh>

a Pastor once said...shared joy is double joy

shared sorrow is half

hope this is true for this tragedy

Peace,

Mike

Sorry for you loss, may your friend rest in peace. And my prayers also go out for a quick recuperation of the other rider.

Another friend died this past weekend, Shannon Criss, on a group ride in the Quincy area.

It's a very sad day and I am so sorry for the loss of your friend as well. Sending prayers, thoughts, and wishes to you and the families/friends who have lost a good person.

Sorry to hear that. Hope Joel is back in Lisa's arms now. Condolences to all involved. IIRC, the Star folks are pretty close. Met a few really good people when I had a VStar.

Very tragic news! Our prayers and condolences to you and everyone that new your friend Joel.

Peace be with you my friend!

I'm from the Hess family in the north Missouri area.

I hate to hear of this whether related or not...

Thanks for posting...

Terrible tragic news, prayers of encouragement to the family and to their children having to go through loosing the other parent so soon after the first.

After taking a (secret special course) they share a alarming statistic when it comes to MC deaths on the highways, it is quite alarming, yet a sobering fact

to those of us that ride so passionately.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. My prayers go out to family, friends and those who had to witness this.
