TEN PREDICTIONS FOR THE FJR'S FUTURE
If you like the E-shift, you'll love this!
(Funny, but perhaps not...)
1. Thanks to the sales of the 2006 "E-shift" models, starting in 2007 Yamaha begins charging "extra" for a clutch lever & standard shift. Motorcycle Magazine poll claims the average age of 2007 FJR owner climbs to 67. Yamaha goes after Honda's Goldwing market share and boasts, "Goldwing riders will seriously consider the FJR as their next bike."
2. 2008 FJR's come out with big wide comfortable seats which pushes the FJR into a totally new category. Bike magazines dub this new category, "HYPER-SCOOTER!"
3. 2009 - Motorcyclist Magazine holds first Hyper-Scooter shoot-out!!! Comparison between the '09 FJR to the new Suzuki Max'ie Burgman Scooter. The '09 FJR wins hands down, although 7% of the owners are still reporting an engine "tick." The good news is, the "tick" is "slower" now because because of gov't regulations have limited maximum speed of street legal motorcycles to 79mph).
4. 2010 FJR's are introduced with fully automatic CVT transmissions! Yamaha ad claims, "Messy push-button manual shifting is a thing of the past!"
5. 2011 FJR's introduces RTW (Retractable Training Wheels!), which automatically come down at lower speeds! FJR sales go through the roof as thousands of grandmother's across the country develop a keen interest in the FJR! AARP provides free advertising for Yamaha! Never before has there been so many riders over the age of 85!
6. 2012 FJR introduces "LLABS" - the Laser Linked Automatic Braking System! Rider has no control over the brakes. The new FJR stops at stop signs, lights, tolls booths, and in emergency conditions - all under full automatic control!!! (Yamaha saves weight by eliminating brake pedal and lever.)
7. The 2013 FJR introduces AS/L feature (Automatic steering/leaning). By sensing the road ahead and applying the proper amount of counter-steering, there is no need for the rider to steer! A fully incorporated AS/L-GPS system controls point A to B destinations with pin-point accuracy! Yamaha boasts, "Very little rider interaction required!"
8. 2014 FJR's introduce Hybrid Technology! FJR fattens up to 980lbs, horsepower drops to 64 (combined electic and gas), resulting in an amazing 87mpg! Yamaha boasts, "The $27 per gallon gas prices are less of a concern to the 2014 FJR rider!" (Yamaha claims a fuel-cell FJR version is right around the corner and the promise of the "engine tick elimation" may finally be realized!)
9. 2015 FJR's introduce ASC (Automatic Speed Control). Rider no longer has to worry about speeding tickets!! The new FJR now senses posted speed limits and never exceeds those limits! (News Flash!!! Insurance companies scramble to find a way to recoup dropping insurance rates! Future bike rate hikes may end up being linked to how often owners purchase rear tires!)
Yamaha boasts, "Full integration of past options come into play with 2015 FJR thanks to; auto-braking introduced in 2012, auto-counter-steering/leaning introduced in 2013, and now Automatic Speed Control in 2015, the rider only has to; talk to his or her GPS, and hold on! The new FJR starts automatically starts and takes the rider to his/her destination. And no need to worry about, throttle control, steering, or braking! (Throttle control has been eliminated!) Acceleration is automatically dialed in to maximized fuel mileage! A warning in the 2015 FJR Owners Manual states, "Due to projected boredom which could result from owner falling asleep and falling off your new FJR, it is recommended that the rider listen to the incorporated XM radio to stay awake."
10. 2016 - Yamaha comes out with a 4-wheel FJR, named "The Cage".
(Pssst, I'll be the one passing by, shifting on my old 2005 model!)
