Kelly smelly blue book! It just an national average and does not take into account how rare or how much gouging the original dealer did. If you lived in Alabama , the discount land of FJR, the $11,000 would be high. If you lived in Cali or even HAWAII ( hello !! ) the bike is expensive from the start. You're lucky to find a bike at sticker price... usually sticker plus for the FJR in those states.

With the rarity of the FJR on the islands, I think the $11,000 is a good price. I'll even bet he paid over thirteen for it out the door.

Good luck Dragon!!

One of the salesguys is selling his 05 for $11000, bought in November, 2000 miles, a small scratch on the left bag, i'll take his word that its' a parking lot scratch, surface, not the kind of scratch you get if the bike goes down....
Asked him why he was selling it, because he wants on 06 R6, got to have a new bike, and he does get a pretty good deal when he buys new.
He probably bought it for less than that then? My brand new 2006 will cost me $11,500.00 + sales tax and notary fees. You do the math.... I'm in SE PA. Dealer in NE PA.

Thanks to everyone for the replies...

I dont' know how to answer each post ( ok, I'm usually on Delphi! <BG>) so I'll just answer everyone here...

The bike does have ABS, also has the saddlebag liners. The scratch on the side is barely into the clear coat, you really have to look to even see it..

I rode it today, It's a lot like my Suzuki Banidt 1200, but is bigger, heavier (still seems light compared to a crusier), and handles like a dream.. I talked to the mechanic at the shop about how the kid rides, the mech said John does not hot rod or ride like an idiot, that the bike was well taken care of. The tires have a very "chicken" chicken strip.... about like those on my Bandit <G>.... and do not look scuffed or anything.

I did notice three things... the clutch seems hard to pull, (for a sportbike, but still less than my Harley) and the stock seat totally sucks. Also, the higher the windshield, the more wind noise I pick up.

Things do cost more here, ( just ask the guys that want to buy a new Harley! ). I was thinking about shipping it to the West coast and riding it back to Ohio in a few months. Lisc and paperwork are good until next November.

The price is OTD, no tax since it's a private sale. It cost about $10 to transfer the title here. I'll have to pay to ship a bike regardless, so that's not a consideration,

and I will not buy a CA bike. Having one ready to pick up and ride when I get to CA more of less offsets having to shop around for one when I get there. I'm also shopping for an 05 Victory....

Having a bike on the BI is great... I've shipped my Harley over there a couple of times for the big rally they hold every August.... nothing beats riding on top of a volcano up in the clouds with the sun shining brightly and the waves 10000 feet below you rolling into the surf.

I'll be living a bit south of Cleveland, near Medina. would not move except I had to put my mom into a nursing home near there. Well, that and a ride around the perimeter of O'ahu is about 150 miles.... but can take 5 to 7 hours depending on traffic.... O'ahu is the world's biggest parking lot!

Ok, next question... What are Heli risers? It would be nice to have the bars a tad higher, is that some sort of riser?

Many thanks to everyone for your replies.

Mary

Bought my 05 with a little over 2000 miles, ABS, magnetic tank protector, upgraded grips, cruise control, YES warranty, trunk,....perfect condition.............$9500.00 out the door and in the wind.

Ok, next question... What are Heli risers? It would be nice to have the bars a tad higher, is that some sort of riser?
Heli Bar is a brand name of handle bar risers. They bolt to the top of the triple tree and the bars bolt to them.

There are a few different brands: Heli brings the bars up about 3/4" and back, Motorcycle Larry's are more like 1 1/4" I think and he makes a set with the stock angle and one that moves the angle of the bars out 6 degrees, I think someone makes a set that moves them out 10 degrees.

So I would say ride it for a couple hundred miles and look at the different risers before you decide.

Seems like I recall the Hawaiin FJR bikes can't get the same extended 4-year unlimited miles Y.E.S. factory warranty that the USA mainland bikes get. Maybe only the initial 1 year warranty? If that's a factor, might be worth checking before you decide. Hope I'm wrong. Good luck!

Know what you mean about crossing over from Delphi. The different format takes a bit of getting used to.

I rode without the Heli bars for a while and did OK but now that I have them, I wouldn't take them off. They lift the bars, like risers do on a cruiser, and allow me to sit up straighter.

You're right about the stock seat. I've replaced mine with a custom seat, which I'm still breaking in. DH is helping me out there though - whenever I leave the FJR in the garage, he puts a few miles on the seat for me. What a thoughtful guy he is! Hey - you don't think he's riding my bike because he LIKES it do you?

Now that you've experienced the handling, do you see why we all love our FJR's?

Good luck with your purchase. Hope you're able to get a great deal.

Jill

Nope, can't get the same warrenties for any bikes here, but can pic one up in the mainland... Has to do with some bull about country of orgin or something....

Cant' get a lot of the same deals either... on everything from concerts and discounts on cars to specials at McDonalds. It all just depends.

But, if i get this one, I can get the seat redone, and install risers before I ship it to San Diego... then I will be ready to roll....

You went to Oija is the spelling even close?) and got the Rick Mayer seat? hey, it's midnight , i got everything confused!

Is is softer or harder than the stock seat? The stock seat feels like a Corbin... and I do not have a corbin as*.... <BG>

funny, it's way bigger than the bandit, but handles smaller... except when i stopped, put my foot out too far and had the handlebars turned...oops... only a littel lean there...whew!

It was Ojai I went to, near Ventura, CA. Bill (Rocky) Mayer is the seat guy. The seat feels a lot like the borrowed Corbin I had on my VStar. It's neither soft nor hard. It is however, the exact shape of MY a** since it's a custom seat. I had to get on and off the bike several times for him to get it just right.

Getting the seat done was a fun thing. DH and I stayed in Ojai overnight to miss the AM rush hour traffic through LA. While Rocky worked on the seat, we basked in the January sunshine, played with his dogs and read some of his extensive library of motorcycle magazines. He even brought us lunch, and told us cool stories.

Rocky shaved a little off the sides to help my reach but kept most of the height to preserve the comfort. I'm still breaking in the seat, and am told that it will improve tremendously with wear. When he watched me sit on the bike, he asked if I scoot forwards in the twisties. I hadn't really thought about it, but I do, and I get pins and needles (but I wasn't about to tell him WHERE!) He added a soft, gel part to the seat, right on that bit.

So far, I haven't done a decent length ride on the new seat. This is the time of year when overtime is plentiful at work. That gets us closer to DH's new bike which in turn gives me the FJR exclusively.

Well, I did email Russell seats to see how long a lead time it would take to get one made there, but I like your seat...

Do you have an email addy for the Mayer seat? Ojai is lots closer than where Russell seats are, and all I've heard is good things about both of them.

I do know I won't be able to ride cross country right after shipping my bike on that board Yamaha calls a seat, and I dont' have time to ship the pan to the mainland and get in back.... I did put a Corbin on my V*, but it was a brick as well, although it didn't burn like the stock seat, it just wasnt' comfy, either.

I guess my ass is spoiled from the Mustang seat on my Harley... <G>

Now all I have to do is figure out how to fly back and forth and end up where and when i need to be places... sheese!

You could allways do a ride-in at Russel or Mayer's.

Check out the website. There is a photo of an FJR hiding in there somewhere. I can't say enough nice things about the ride-in experience. I'm liking my seat more and more as it wears in.

There is a great road for testing your seat out, on the way home, as long as you don't get stuck behind the slow pokes.

Unless of course you sell the Harley before you move, and buy your FJR (for alot less money) when you get here to Ohio (I'm in Dayton). Seems like you'd get a better resale price for the old bike there, save on shipping a 600+ lb motorcycle, and pay less for the replacement upon your arrival. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Ahhhhgggghhhhhh...sell my Harley?... that's treason! <BG>

No, my Harley is carbed, i've got it set up just right, not selling that one...

F*** the EPA! The only thing they're protecting is their jobs, while trying to get rid of all motorcycles. I will also be looking for older Harley and Triumphs.

Besides, my kid has already told me that he gets the Deuce either when I die or get too old to ride anymore... (he's hoping bigtime it's the latter....cause he said it'd come first! )<ROFL> He hasn't done too well with things with wheels... had his m/c lisce 2 years, two accidents... neither were his fault, which sucks cause I cant' even blame him!

And yesterday he had his new bicycle stolen at the Univ of Hi dorm... he used the cable instead of the u-lock... they just cut the cable... Dang kid! That one I did yell at him for!

If I were to sell anything it would be the 2002 Suzuki Bandit 1200 my kid wrinkled a bit... The actual idea of buying the FJR here was so that I could ride it cross country, and add a few things to it so it would be ready to roll when it landed on the mainland.

The Deuce and the Bandit are going in the shipping container with my other stuff... like a couple air compressors, my tool boxes, other stuff..oh, and clothes...

I am selling the furniture...that's cheap to replace...

I might tell the kid that's selling the bike if he does get another offer for cash, to go and sell it... From what I had read before I got on this forum, you couldnt' find any FJR's... you had to order them.... Now i see you can find them...

But I may just take everyone's advice and wait till I get to Ohio...

In order for me to be comfortable on the FJR, I need a different seat, risers and forward pegs... minimum....

Thanks to everyone here, I've sure learned a lot about these bikes...

I'm even thinking instead of putting the H-D into the shipping container, I should just ship it and ride that cross country... instead of trying to get everything sorted out on a long ride on a new bike. I guess San Diego to Cleveland is a long ride...<BG>

Now I need suggestions on where to look for a FJR in Ohio or somewhere...

Thanks for the comments,

Mary
