So it turns out that Youtube has more than precious cat videos. Me, I love learning about military history, so when I stumbled upon a documentary posted on Youtube about Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil War circa 1640, I thought, "Cool."

So I'm watching the video and they're talking about the Battle of Marston Moore, and how Cromwell is going up against "the most feared general in the royalist army, Prince Rupert of the Rhine."

Then we see the prince galloping into battle on his mighty steed, carrying under his arm, not a lance or a halberd or even a pot of tea. No, he's carrying a...fluffy white doggie.

Fairlaner, Rog.... Can you please explain how this is not actually a Monty Python sketch and should be taken gravely as an important piece of your proud English heritage? Right up there with:

First off, it's Marston Moor

.

Secondly, it's common knowledge that Boye (the famous white hunting poodle) was actually tied up at the start of the battle but broke free and was killed during the battle.

No, I'm not old enough to remember it, but I have been to a Sealed Knot re-enactment.
