I am so in!

As some may remember, I had a R60/5 for a while. Scratched the itch, and then flipped it for a (small) profit and moved on. The old bike just never measured up to all the airhead kool-aide I had been drinking. But mine did not come with even a smattering of provenance, unlike your Unk Dutch, that has it in spades.

This story line is just too cool for words. Even if you never ride it 1K, or more than 100 miles, getting this machine restored is a wonderful goal. And don't listen to the manatee molester. Plaid shorts are the new black tie (just ask Oface) and white socks trump no socks any day.

Rock on, Don. (How the hell do you manage to rope Ray into these fiascoes? You have a portfolio of incriminating pictures or something? )

You mean you actually want it to run. I thought it was going to be a coffee table.

Do I have to take the KZ apart and put pistons in it???
uhoh.gif
Yes, that would be helpful, Ray!

..and to help you, I already started tearing apart BREAKING the R60 for you.

Fixed!

A Heyco Discovery?

Any chances these are orginal BMW tools provided with the bike when new?

The R60's gas tank... I had no key. Paid a locksmith. Here's what I found inside..

Any chance in hell these are the original tools?

The markings look correct. West Germany and all..

By my best estimate, these tools have not seen the light of day since the early 1970's.

I just wonder if they really are OEM?

The "Made in Germany" stamp and the Heyco brand (German) would make it seem quite likely that they are OEM. (Although I'm not sure why "Made in Germany" is in English; unless manufactured specifically for the export market.)

Don Carver you Lucky *******, I swear to God that if you were thrown in a pile of horse **** you would find a pony to ride! Probably with a saddle!

Yes, that is a BMW Factory Heyco Tool kit. My 1966 R60/2 had the writing in German, but my 1974 Heyco kit for my R90S was stamped in English!

Many countries write the country of manufacture of their goods in English. I've no idea why, you can often see it on stuff that isn't destined for export.

Wow, it just gets better and better for the Donald! And to think I already bled and captured the German Nitrogen out of the tires..

Send those along and along with a big hammer that's all the tools needed for tractor service. Maybe a rattle can of flat black paint.

Gloss black, Ray, get it right this time, 'k?

Nitrogen? WTF? Donnie Boy, RadioHowie and Papa Chuy Viejo are certain that you actually meant German Hydrogen! jes' sayin' and nuff said, Ka-Boom!

There always seems to be plenty of natural gas around here.
rolleyes.gif
Most of it seems to originate in AZ. or FL. with AZ being the most obnoxious

Oh boy, I get to put greasy finger prints and markers all over a virgin manual. Don't see many virgins around here.:) :) :)

Had a '62 R69 back in '68-69. This sure brings back lots of memories. Recognize the Wixom fairing. This bike is actually in excellent condition for its age. Look forward to seeing how you solve some of the problems you are sure to encounter & what replacement parts you find.

One problem I had immediately with mine was with sticking float needles in the carbs. The float needles were attached directly to the floats, so the needles quickly developed grooves and they would stck. Later carbs used a small lever in the cap that pushed against the needle and a simple rod that went through the float & replaced the original needle, so I replaced the cap assembly & rod through the float and I was good to go.

Best Wishes on your project!

Norm Kern
