Here is a new one ( I think ). It only seems that in 4th gear I hear a distinct what I would call a pulsating sound. I have yet to hear it in any other gear. I have an '05 ABS with 3400 miles. If this is normal it at least tells me which gear I'm in. What do you think?

I thought I was the only one that noticed it. Hmmmmm. Yeah, I have it too. And I too have an 05 with the same amount of miles on it. I've heard the sound from the beginning our mine and Peggy Sue's relationship. How bout you?

Yep.

It's not new. Same problem has been happening on a small amount of bikes since day 1 of the FJR. Mine does it. Dealer said it's normal. Being one who doesn't trust dealers (most of them), I had the dealer listen to it, verify in writing that the noise is there, have a printout of the service call and their "normal" statement.

No way I'm letting them strip apart the tranny without a failure, so I just ride it.

My advice is to wear earplugs. Or just pretend like you're George Jetson on your way to Spacely Sprockets! Whir-whir-whir-whir-waah-waah-wahh-waah!!!

Now if it made this sound in all gears...the diff is probably shimmed incorrectly.

This has been brought up before.

FJRs seem to make this sound when cruising in 4th around 40 mph.

Whir, whir, whir is Japanese for faster, faster, faster.
