does anyone know what the pulse rate (pulses per mile) is at pin 18 on the ecu? I think that is the abs sensor...

[guess]

This question is in relationship to a cruise control install.

[/guess]

The accuracy of the following numbers should be sufficient for the intended application of cruise control settings.

The front and rear ABS sensors go directly to the ABS ECU on solid white and solid black wires. It would be a good speculation that the vehicle speed is sent to the main ECU via the White/Yellow wire going to pin 18. Look at this wire with a meter when the rear wheel is spin by hand. The FSM ABS block diagram shows the speed output of the ABS ECU going directly to the Meter Assembly. Some research is needed, the White/Yellow wire going to the ECU may yet carry the vehicle speed signal.

There are 42 teeth on the ABS sensor ring. This equals 42 pulses per 1 complete rotation of the wheel and 34,200 pulses per mile. The rate of the pulses will be proportional to the speed of the motorcycle. At 60 mph that is 569 pulses per second or 1.8 milliseconds per pulse. At 30 mph there are 285 pulses per second or 3.5 milliseconds per pulse.

(Some value rounding done. I reserve the right to be wrong in my calculations.)

Couple of interesting topics...

SpeedoHealer
Well, well. The SpeedoHealer site seems to confirm that the wheel sensors go directly to the ABS ECU and the ABS ECU then feeds the Main ECU speed information via pin 18, the White/Yellow wire. Done.

Yes it was asked for a cruise install. I have been working on a Rostra electronic install for some time now and have had problems. If I had it to do over again I would use the vacuum one (cc-100). The Rostra is capable of going high enough to use the ABS sensors pulse rate but there is something in the signal, amplitude, or something that that does not jive with it. I had to put a magnetic kit on the rear wheel to make it work...
