Whilst watching the MotoGP bikes they interviewed Scott Redding a British 125 rider in his rookie year was 11th fastest in the last practice and had been up to 5th at one stage. So what ! did you say? He is 15 and his voice hadn't even broken when they interviewed him!!!

Bradley Smith, another Brit, an old hand at 15 1/2, is continually at the front and was fastest at the end of the session.

The track looks extremely wide to me, watching the MotoGP bikes go round. It also looks wierd under flood lights somehow looks unnatural.

I will post more including relevant results as the sessions unfold. We have 3 hours of free practice live tonight, then 3 hours of live qualifying tomorrow and the races the night after. All starting at 8pm, which is superb in my book.

Updates.

Repsol bikes running 2007 engines. 2008 engines there but left in the truck.

Pedrossa and Hayden have a new chassis and an old chassis each. Nicky is to be persevering with the 08 bike whilst Pedrossa runs the 07.

Honda won F1 in 1990 with a pneumatic valved engine but have constantly struggled with the bikes.

Rossi and Lorenzo have been using a pneumatic engine since late last year and have had little trouble with it.

25 minute mark. Stoner just gone fastest. His bike looks stunning under the floodlights.

28 minutes Rossi 6 Davizioso 3 Toseland 4 Edwards 8 Stoner fastest Nicky out of top 10 at the moment

Concerns about track temperature falling rapidly as the evening goes on. It has dropped 10 degrees in 2 hours

Hopkins struggling with injured leg from testing currently 18th.

40 minutes Pedrossa rammed Rossi on the exit to a fast bend and crashed. Rossi carried on and didn't even flinch

Pedrossa running back to the pit lane with 20 minutes left of the session.

Just watched the slo-mo replay, Rossi deffinitely backed off causing Pedrossa to charge into the back of him.

13 minutes to go, it starts to get interesting now, as they all put the sticky rubber in.

Stoner 10 mph faster than Toseland on the longest straight. Rossi is 4th fastest Yamaha at the moment 11 minutes to go.

Toseland up to 3rd behind Stoner & Lorenzo 8 minutes to go

Anthony West big crash but walking away (Hoppers team mate)

3 minutes to go 3 rookies in the top 5

30 seconds to go Hayden runs into sand trap but stays on

4 rookies in top 6 Rossi slowest of the 4 Yamahas on the track.

Toseland was on race tyres and didn't use a qualifier yet!!

At finish of session.

1 Stoner

2 Lorenzo (only 100th of a second down)

3 Toseland

4 Edwards

5 Dovizioso

6 DeAngelis

7 DePunier

8 Vermulan

9 Rossi

Hayden 13 Hopper 18th.

A couple of 'get-offs' during practice: Stolen from here

Qatar MotoGP: James Toseland crashes unhurt in first practice By Matthew Birt

MotoGP

07 March 2008 17:10

James Toseland has walked away from a crash in his first MotoGP practice session in Qatar tonight.

The 27-year-old had just jumped to fourth on the timesheets with a lap of 1:56.950 when he lost the front end of his Tech 3 Yamaha YZR-M1 on his 14th lap.

James Toseland immediately got to his feet, but his bike was too badly damaged to ride out of the gravel trap in the spill with 22 minutes of the opening floodlit session remaining.

The double World Superbike champion did make it back out on track but eventually finished eighth fastest as he failed to improve his best time on his spare bike.

He ended up 1.080secs off Casey Stoner’s best time.

Alex de Angelis was the first MotoGP rider to crash during the competitive season after just 23 minutes.

He walked away unhurt and just eight minutes remained when impressive rookie Andrea Dovizioso lost the front of his Honda RC212V at turn one.

The former world 125 champion was third quickest with a best time of 1:56.221.

That left him top Honda rider, with Dani Pedrosa next best in fifth as the Repsol-backed factory team reverted back to the 2007 RC212V.

Nicky Hayden was ninth quickest.
I wonder if de Angelis scratched that pretty rainbow colored helmet?

I think that must have been yesterday. It's 9.30 pm here at the moment and gone midnight at Qatar. The results I put up were as they were happening.
