Questions after 1500 miles

Got 1500 miles on my 2011 FJR and wondering if all these noises are normal.

I get a lot of strange muffled rattle popping kinda sounds when the bike is cold and warming up.

Rode without earplugs the other day and couldn't belive the wining whirling sounds coming from the engine.

Hope its normal but I couldn't ride this bike without earplugs but I still love this beast.

All normal sounds. I always ride with ear plugs but it is a surprise to hear all the noise without them. Ride it like you stole it.

The popping is extra fuel burning off via the AIS in the exhaust while the engine is cold.

You need aftermarket exhaust cans! I couldn't stand hearing the whining engine and no exhaust note from the stock cans. But yeah what your hearing is normal.

I dunno, mine runs really quite, When I ride through "Pirate Gatherings" they yell at me to "Rev it up!!!"

I am. I am is my answer. No really my bike runs pretty quite. no burping, gurgaling, popping, ratteling, whirling, nothing but motor running. If I do hear those sounds, they are comming from the pillion!

Yeah, but most of the turbine-like whirring whine comes from the dual balance shafts.

I removed mine during my engine install. Shakes a tiny bit around 9k rpm, but picked up about 20-25hp.

You better include a sound file in your post then, cuz we can't hear YOUR bike without it. You obviously have a concern, and are well versed in bikes. maybe you DO have a problem???

I think its OK, it was just a surprise to hear it without the earplugs and I was use to quiet.

I never wore earplugs with my other bikes but they all had much larger windshields.

Lesson learned...do yourself a favor and NEVER listen to your FJR w/o ear-plugs again! :lol:

Seriously and as others have mentioned, the bike makes a lot of noises -- some that don't sound all that sophisticated at times.

You've raised an interesting point here.

Recently, while on a ride, I forgot to put my ear-plugs back in after a gas stop. I thought my bike was going to fly apart, there were all kinds of whirring, drumming, mechanical sounds appearing to come up through the gas tank - but it was running great. I noticed these sounds changed dramatically according to the road surface. I still have stock suspension, so maybe a lot of the sound is road noise??
