I bought the TireGard monitor despite the warnings on the possible leakage since tje valve stem is held open. This was last July and I still have not convinced the manufacturer that they should not operate the way they do for me. I plan to write a review here on my frustrations but will summarize it here:The monitor usally reads the last updated pressure for a couple of hours to a couple of days to a couple of weeks. It seems to randomly update and often it is only one of the tires (sometimes front, sometimes rear, rarely both). The manufacturer says that "that is how they work, they do not update until the pressure changes enough". I said that, upon warming up for a few miles, the pressure should change 3-4 psi in the positive direction. They said that that may not be enough for an update but argued whether the tire pressure really changed upon riding unless I verified with a gauge. It is great when the temperature changed changed this spring to check the temperature using the TireGard: The TireGard said the tires were still the 35 degrees from February but, when I left the house, it was 65 degrees (air conditioned tires?). Further, the monitor is designed to turn off on its own after 20 minutes of no signal from the tire sensors. What that means in practice is, if the tire pressures are not changing "enough" every twenty minutes, the monitor turns off. I was finally on a long trip and had to turn the monitor on most every 20 minutes. If you do not notice that it turned off when you hit that nail, tough luck. Before you all blast me, I really think that my monitor is defective but I have already spent money to send it back once and all they did was replace the sensors. I want to be sure I know what they will do before I spend another $15 to send it back.

On another note, my first set of sensors did seem to leak, but the replacements do not seem to (except when I take them off since the TireGard had not updated for two weeks). It is possible that they are sensitive to how tight you put them on (instructions say something like "not too tight").
Sumpin' ain't right with your unit. They should replace it.

If that plastic cap breaks the tire will lose pressure. Do you want that on your bike?

Yes because I consider the likelyhood of the plastic portion breaking far smaller than the likelyhood that I will be lazy and not get out the tire gage and ride off with low pressure.

That's an unreasonable argument. "If" a meteorite falls on your head.... "If" your tank explodes between your legs.... "If" a currently undiscovered tropical fungus that eats rubber attacks your tires....

Can't begin a reasonable supposition with "if".

If you believe all that.....

Heh! Good one!

"If" your tank explodes between your legs....
Haven't seen that yet, but I did see a turbocharged Harley fire a pushrod into someone's thigh at a Gatornational once. Does that count?

Right then and there I decided "double-overhead-cam's the way to go for me!"

Not really, 'cause you'd have to create a sentence saying "IF a Harley blew up....." and that's not as big a stretch as having your tank blow up between your legs. :p

Got a link to buy these on eBay or where ever? Great find, thanks!!!
I bought mine from ebay seller billc1950.

My last purchase does not have a functioning link anymore, but in giving the hint that they were 1.60 each incl. shipping, I think that points to the auctions for the exact units I bought.

I saw your second post, you already ordered. Was it from the same guy?

I had a few folks wonder at our Auburn Tech-meet at Bryans house why I didn't want to put in the popular steel elbow valve stem with my new back tire. I put in the very short straight stem off Curvy Girls ebay shop instead, and here are the pictures as to the why.
cruppelt, thanks for the post, i too have had a version of these things leak before on a cage, but those did look to be of an inferior quality to these.

Could you pls post a link or more details on the Curvy Girls ebay shop, when i tried searching ebay sellers/shops for this name, all i came up with was female clothing.

Sorry about that - precise  spelling is the key here. Her ebay store is https://stores.ebay.com/kurveygirl. Looks like she's only selling through ebay now rather then her own internet site.

Yep, I just checked: Billc1950!!! Can't wait to get them.....

A quick warning: I just had a coworker that put a different flavor of these on his truck this weekend; two leaked immediately. We had talked about these things a couple of weeks ago, and he had said that he bought some a while back but had never put them on.

So he showed me the two failed indicators this morning, it's the ones with the hex on them where you can use a wrench. I look at the o-ring on the inside, go "oh-oh", and my next question is "how tight did you get them?". And he says, "I made damn sure they were nice and tight on the valves because I didn't want them to leak."   He used a big adjustable wrench and busted right through the o-rings in there.

They only need to be hand tightened, let the rubber o-ring do it's work!
