Trade or Sell my FJR?

I really like the R1.

Am I totally retarded to change bikes. Ok don't answer that...:)

Anyway I really would like to have a R1 but I don't need both, Am I the only one that is thinking this.

I thought I would be taking more long rides then I do, but most of my rides are one day rides 300 miles or less, ride to work at times. I love the rides in the Twistys I'm 45 and to old to race.....lol........so anyway that's it in a nut shell!!

I love the FJR, But I really like the R1. FJR is so dang heavy. I dunno. what ta do, what ta do?

Keep the FJR, get a woman to ride 2up with you.

Riding 300 miles on an R1 is less than enjoyable by many people's accounts.

I understand the desire to have an R1. They are awesome!

What are you thinking, Boy! Of course you need both! Sheesh! I have both. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I managed to keep my 01 R1 for about 8 weeks before it had to go, on the streets around Pensacola, it is about as much use as tits on a bull.

Had to be the most uncomfortable bike I had every slung a leg over, and I am a dyed in the wool Yamaha man.

Would be a cool track bike for 30-40 minutes at a time, and that is where it belongs, has no business being on the public roads with law abiding citizens.

Makes you want to do BAD things.

I ride with a guy in his mid-40's who only owns a R1. I also have a friend with a FJR who also has a Hayabusa. I also recently thought about buying a Hayabusa (I have a Goldwing as a "second" bike- which makes it a somewhat rational idea). But I decided to buy a FJR instead (to repace my ST1300).

I'm 53 years old, and while I love the twisties too, I had to be honest with myself and say that the Hayabusa was more to fill a void (wow - I've got the baddest thing on wheels!!!), my rational side took over and told me I would regret it, and end up with an FJR anyway.

Okay, there is no answer to your question in the above response. Do what makes you happy!

 
I've tussled with this a couple of times. I'm 50 and have both the FJR and a gsxr1000. It's personal preference, but for solo driving, the gsxr is still my favorite, even on long distance (>600 mile days). I'll be saving the FJR for two-up riding.

I made a choice once before 20 years ago when I had a 600 Ninja and a Honda v45 Sabre (remember those)? Since I couldn't afford both, I had to choose. The lightness and agility of the Ninja won out over the comfort of the Sabre (with Corbin seat and factory fairing).

 
I had a Connie and my choices were a) replace it with the FJR B) keep it and get an R1. When I asked about insurance, my company said, "We don't like that bike." I asked, "You mean it's going to cost a lot?" They replied, "No, we won't insure it." The cheapest I found was 3K per year. I got the FJR.You may not mind the insurance or you might get a cheaper rate.

I like the practicality of the FJR: bags to haul stuff, decent weather protection, comfortable ride, hauls the wife in comfort. I'd really like an R1, but I'd probably ride the FJR most of the time. The best thing would be to have both. Good luck with your choice.

 
If you really are on the fence take a ride or at least sit on an FZ1 if comfort is at all a consideration. It will still run like crazy with a much more relaxed riding position similar to the FJR and weighs considerably less.

My problem with owning motorcycles is that I can't part with them easily. My only limitation is the size of my garage. I'm sure that if I had a garage that would hold twenty bikes, I would own 20 bikes. Keep the FJR and get the R-1 also, that way you won't have any regrets down the road....

 
I may not be the best barometer around when it comes to this case, but every time I get on my brother's R1 I can't wait to get off the thing. Nothing about that bike, excepting its acceleration and capability in the twisties, has any appeal to me. The FJR is far more suited to my needs.

 
Buy the R1 and keep both bikes for awhile and then decide if you want to keep both or get rid of one or the other. :cownoy:

 
If you can afford it, don't make a one or the other decision. The R1 and FJR are radically different and serve different purposes.

I've gone the two bikes route and it's a great way to serve different moods and different rides.

 
Well, this is just stupid. Silly man -- you NEED both!

I bought the FJR thinking I could sell my '97 Blackbird, but they're too different, both great bikes, so I decided to keep it. Until yesterday, that is.

I ran into a 2003 Blackbird with less than 3000 miles for a really good price -- it's been treated very sweetly (it was traded in for a Hardley, and there's not a scratch on the peg scrapers, huge chicken strips and it seems it may never have seen the other side of 5000 rpms). So, I bought a THIRD bike! Actually, I had a LOT of farkles in process for the '97 and have now made necessary arrangements to put them on the '03. I'll put the '97 back together with some new parts and a little maintenance it needed but without the full farkling program, and it's going to go on the block this spring. Unless someone wants to trade me an R6 or R1 for it, that is.

Precisely, exactly what I have done also. My Blackbird is going NOWHERE. Nowadays, it is my primary LD Rally bike, and it's going to be seeing a LOT of Endurance rallies this coming year.... Cal 24.... Utah 1088... and another, very extreme event later in the summer.

Get the R1, UnCaged. Don't hesitate. Don't dwell. Just get it.

Yup, you're nuts...

Dont' forget, you're really leaning on your arms on the F1... it was comfortable for a short while, but... Id hate to ride all day on that... only road about a half hour... the speed rush is nice, tho.... <BG>

I test rode a FJR... it rode and felt lighter than my 02 Bandit 1200, which weighs about 100 lbs less...... and the FJR was way more comfortable.

If you think the FJR is heavy, try riding some of the big cruisers!

and then load them with all the gear... they're hitting well over 1000 lbs!

edited.... forgto, the FZ1 is nice too., just a teensy bit downtuned... but still a rush...but it did feel a bit taller, dont' remember....

I ride with a bunch of ladies, about half have cruisers and the other half sportbikes... so I get to test ride lots of stuff....<RBG>
