At WFO, Yamaha had this R1LE for us to sit on. We did. It made people smile. See:

I only posted this because I'm sick of always seeing the ZX-14 thread on the top of this thread grouping, but now that you bring up CA sport bike gear, there are definitely strong ATGATT feelings around here.

The R1 is just a really cool bike and boy I want a sport bike for the track!

My favorite part of the bike, cosmetically speaking (besides the old school color scheme), is the wheels. Those things look sahweet!

Hey TWN, ATGATT! :D

Hey, thats standard sport bike gear in SoCal!
Not quite...his hats not on backwards :D

Throw a beer between his legs and he'd be close to meeting the standards for Glamis gear

Crap, I forgot about that shot. Maybe it's because I just had a shot? That bike is so sweet, but I fear I'd kill myself within the first mile of riding.

As far as shorts and flip flops; you'll never catch me publicly in shorts. My bony white chicken legs frighten even the burliest of men and girliest of wimminz! Kina rike people fweeing Godzillra in Tokyo!

That LE is one pretty ride. Pretty uncomfortable too. happily yesterday I discovered an even more uncomfortable bike- besides a Schwinn Stingray without a seat- SV1000s. Yikes. Scratch that one off the list of things to put in the garage. The relatively comfy GSXR1000k6 remains on the list though.

You guys forgot about the FJR's little brother that fast?

This thing is a very controllable street fighter but just rowdy enough to never let you get board, and due to the more upright sitting position you can ride all day without a problem. An R1 attitude in a radical street package. The aftermarket world has finally caught up and offers lots of mods for both performance and convenience.

I don't tour the big slab or do track days, although this modern injected liter bike is more than capable, but I just can't get enough of the twisties and have yet to be glad I finally got home. I went from an 04 Honda ST1300 to this 438lb dry 133 RWHP bike and would never go back. It's exilerating to say the least.

I couldn't be happier that I made this choice and a few of the FJR members that have ridden with me can attest to that. When I finally come to the point that I have time to tour I'll buy a new FJR but for now I'm enjoying one great street machine.

Here's one with factory lowers added and Scorpion CF can.

oh man that is a sexy machine B)
That one actually belonged to an FZ1OA messageboard member who had an unfortunate get off on some unfamiliar mountain roads during an outing with friends. He's going to be okay but the bike was totaled. Yeah, total bummer, and it seems to have happened much too often this year.

I haven't made any changes to mine other than frame sliders but it's all I ever expected it to be and more.

For what it's worth Rider Magazine is giving away a brand new 06 FZ1. They reviewed the bike earlier this year and chose it for their 2006 "Bike of The Year" award. Sweet! I think they made a good decision.

I would feel really badly about not sharing this with the forum but I also can't justify starting a thread with it since most folks would probably think there is some catch or that I was promoting magazine sales, which I'm not.

Click on the link below. Remember, there is absolutely no purchase or magazine subscription required. I already had already subscribed to the magazine before the drawing began and was able to enter via their web site.

You have until November 30th, 06 to enter.

The editor of Rider Magazine was very prompt with a reply e-mail to me about the subscription page being down a short while, but everything is back to normal now.

The lower fairings have been available for a couple of years. Now if they would import the FJR side bags to this country you'd have a real SPORT sport tourer. The Europeans have that option I believe.

Definitely gorgeous, I like the red too! Got to get the wife a bike first, must...... fight......temptation.....aaargh :gah:

The solid red bike in the above thread is an 06 FZ1 with factory lowers and a Scorpion CF can. Slightly less horsepower up in the top of the rev range, but way more comfy ergos. Top of the streetfighter class for 06 and much lower insurance rates than the racer replica R1. The R1 LE is a VERY expensive machine! $20K+/-.

The red FZ1s aren't available for 07, only Raven, and Cobalt Blue. The same goes for the R1. Blue, Silver and Candy Red. No more limited edition team colors of Yellow&Black from last year's model line up. You can probably still find either 06 FZ1 or R1 models for sale on EBay, Cycle Trader, or other bike specific forums.

Here's Yamaha's latest photo of their 07 red R1.

R1s are pure sport machines and would take a lot of mods to make them comfortable enough to sport/tour on IMO. I can do 150 to 170 mile runs on my FZ1 non stop due to the more upright seating and slightly larger seat, (by then your out of gas anyway) especially if I'm running mountains and not straight slabs of highway. If you want to go all out BTTW on weekends and track days the R1 is the ticket although the FZ1 is a quite capable machine and easily embraces performance mods.
