Looks like a lot of fun. I quit slot cars when I got tired of cleaning the track. It looks like those have batteries on board and are basically radio controlled self contained units.

As a former slot car maniac, I have to say you have seriously ****** me up with this thread-all I need is another mini-motor addiction. Bastage!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, there is a form of racing I might be able to afford! Good thing there are no tracks around here.

OMG, brings back memories... I got into RC Off-Road electrics 20 years ago. There was a converted bowling alley that had an indoor dirt track and a carpet oval/road course.

Just like real racing, every Wednesday night and weekend. You had to drop $100 on something to remain competitive. Either a wing, or battery, or tires, or speed controller or shocks or some-fing-thing. It only took me a summer to realize I could have built a really, really nice REAL car :)

spare ATI turbo 400 w/brake $4k

No, I didn't really mean a race car... Rather the car I was driving at the time could have been much nicer.

The only items on your list I didn't need was the trailer and tow vehicle. I could toss them in the back seat and fill the trunk with spare parts toolboxes.

I had plenty of spare 'motors and batteries, some of which were well over $100 each, which in 1980's dollars was ridiculous, but in the scheme of things was better than drugs, or maybe not.

Hotel stays were not uncommon for out of state races, but I didn't have a crew.

Beer money, was still needed, though luckily bail money was not.

I bought a couple cars a few years ago and I am ever so thankful that my son just didn't get into it, or the cycle would have started all over again :)

Ashe's Law #1

Anything that spells FUN, will cost you a little bit more than you can afford.

Sorry  I knew this would get some people (myself included) crazy.

Precision miniature radio controlled cars. The cars themselves aren't too expensive, it's your choice of radio system that can set you back.

In case some of you RC guys have been away longer than me, There's a new radio system that works on 2.4ghz like cordless phones. It hops frequency many, many times a second. No more channels, no chance of interference from anything anywhere. You just turn on your radio and go. A hundred people could turn on their radios with no interference or overlap. Not expensive either.

I saw these things in my local hobby store. They're always flying miniature helicopters and planes in there. Once this guy was playing with one of these cars. Super fast! You could tell from the sound it was all precision, high-zoot stuff. The steering was amazing.
