I was in heaven this weekend! Great racing! And shocking to see Mladin crash out. Fang is also a MotoGP fan, and we enjoyed it together Sunday evening.
Fang and I followed Hayden's winning season, and both leaped out of our chairs screaming that awful moment that Pedrosa took him out, with a similar reaction when Valentino crashed in the last race. But we're Nicky fans and are bummed to see him get passed and fall back. But it's great to see Edwards looking good this year. Actually, we follow all the yanks, and so it's tough to see Hopper
having issues with his team.
This from Dennis Noyes regarding Nicky on
SpeedTV:
Nicky Hayden is being outperformed by Dani Pedrosa and both Pedrosa and his mentor Alberto Puig have said publicly that Hayden is unable to guide development of the RC212V. In fact, as most engineers would agree, it is difficult to develop one basic 321-pound motorcycle to suit both a 115 pound rider (Pedrosa) and the 155 pound American.
Hayden is likely to be replaced by a smaller rider with a 250 background. Hayden has his own destiny in his hands if he can turn his season around, but, in my personal opinion, he needs to get out of that team where he has never been the number one rider even when he was fighting for the title, and certainly not after he won it.
Hayden has never been fully accepted, it seems, by HRC. That may be because the Japanese feel he was forced on them by American Honda. I believe that as long as Dani Pedrosa is at Honda, Hayden will always be regarded as a second rider by the manufacturer that he won the title for in 2006. Pedrosa has earned his current place by finishing second last season with an imperfect Honda and by coming back to run consistently at the front after missing the entire 2008 preseason due to an injury in Malaysia in post-season testing at the end of 2007—and after ending that season with a very convincing win at Valencia in the final race of the season, taking runner-up honors from Rossi who crashed there to lose second place just as he had in 2006 when he lost the title.
