My rack is quite scuffed and scratched up as I knew it would be after a few trips on the bike. I really didn't want to replace it with some of the aftermarket ones that I have seen because I like the way the original one looks minus the scuffs. I had thought of covering it with black tool dip to give it a rubberized finish, though I'm not sure I would like the look. I also thought of having it powder coated flat black. I use mine a lot so it would need to be durable. Has anyone done anything to make the rack look better and resist scuffs and scratches?

Don't do it. Powdercoating is meant for metal since the powder needs to be baked at 350 - 400 degrees. Your plastic rack would probably not hold up. I suggest getting a good quality satin black rattle can and just repaint it after it gets scuffed up...

+1 paint it -- or if you're not comfortable -- take it to a body shop and have them spray it.

I think that paint might not hold up to future abuse (or normal use for that matter).
Dude you will just half to bite the bullet and go for the aftermarket your fjr forum brethren makes you will not regret it I DIDENT!

Sprayed-on bed liner. Not the cheap crap from wally, but the real stuff. Just do the surfaces used, leave some of the paint showing for looks. Done.
