Yeah, Virginia uses radar detector detectors to catch you. Some RDs are harder to catch, but you need to read up on them.

DC also outlaws them. It's not clear if New York does--there are signs at some of the borders saying they are illegal, but they may be old signs. NYS troopers can be tough though.

In New Jersey, you MUST have your headlights on when you use your windshield wipers. (exemption for motorcycles )

All fifty states should have this requirement.

Virginia charges a $50.00 fine plus court cost and will confiscate your radar detector so if you're ever in Virginia, make sure your detector is out of sight.

The only states or areas in the U.S. that radar detectors are banned are Virginia and Washington D.C. according to Escort  Different story in some Canadian provinces.

That's 1 state and 1 district (no matter how much they want everyone to think they're a state).

If you REALLY want to get technical, Virginia is a commonwealth, not a state.

but anyway...

What about my permantly installed detector with sensor in the bumper and rear and in-dash display? I live 30 miles from virginia and have to travel there from time to time. I always switch it off at the boarder, but I hate to think of them insisting on stripping that thing outta my car. Talk about a hack and slash... :angry:
