Interested in a FJR rallys around the Southeast and elsewhere, would there happen to be a calendar of events anywhere?

BMWMOA carries a list of happenings, always worth a look when you have some time for a trip.

What's coming up on Aug. 1-2-3rd btw?

Actually, meester quick draw linky dude, I think he is more interested in 'FJR' type get togethers.

If that's the case, then KIEEFER you want to look in the 'FJR Meetings' section of the forum. More than likely you might be interested in SFO (Southern FJR Owners get together) and EOM (Eastern FJR Owners Meet).

As for FJR only type get togethers, that's all you get.

A SkooterG suggested: FJR Meetings.

August??? Are you thinking about NAFO?

AND, there is always the FJR Rides and Gatherings section.

IF all else fails, there is the FJR Forum Calendar.

Unfortunately, it isn't utilized much and most don't know it exists (The link is under the "O" in the FJR Forum header.

Of course, we are assuming that you have actually looked through the different headings and sections that are on the opening page of the forum.....

Which begs the question, should endurance rallies be called something else? After all, a HOG rally, or NAFO for that matter, don't have much in common with the Iron Butt Rally, Cal 24 Rally, or WORD! Rally. When I tell someone I'm going to a rally they think something like Sturgis or Hollister. When I say it's an endurance rally they think of something like Sturgis that lasts longer. So what should they be called? Or should the other gatherings be called something else, such as an drunken biker orgy?

You could always tell them you're going on a Long Distance ride (or event) and omit the word "Rally". It has so many different meanings and connotations depending on context and audience that you will make yourself crazy trying to explain any variance to those who do not, cannot and will not understand.

Rally is defined as a "gathering", and though the Iron Butt riders do gather before and after their event, I wouldn't say they fit purely in the "rally" genre. Similar to the "Gumball Rally"! Except I assume the organizers would rather use that term than any adjective that would denote "competition", even though we understand it is a competition with one's self rather than a race against another motorcyclist.

A 'Race' (against others) -- plain and simple. The rider who goes the fastest, goes the furthest, bags the most bonii -- wins!

Well, as long as he still has tread on his rear tire.... :D

There will likely be 6 to 10 FJR's at the Nolichucky Valley Ralley in Erwin, TN running from July 31 to August 3.

Come join us as the roads in this area are terrific and lightly traveled.

Rally Site

Riders in this group are generally as capable, safe, and fast as you'll typically find among sport touring folks.

You'll be welcome here. There is likely to be a name change for this group in the near future. Proof of the pudding was the award of an FJR at the national rally in April.

Thanks! that might be just the fix I need.

I just got back from CO and would love to head back but time is limited in Aug.. I was about ready to crash a Moto Guzzi Rally (5th Annual Moto Guzzi Damn Yankee Rally) but that neck of the woods is also too time consuming. A local ride in east TN sounds great and still crash the North Carolina Moto Guzzis rally in the Blue Ridge.

:punk:

When I say it's an endurance rally they think of something like trailering their bikes to Sturgis and it taking more than 2 days to get there that lasts longer.
There. Fixed if for you... ;)

Or should the other gatherings be called something else, such as an drunken naked biker orgy?
Do mean like what NAFO is destined to become..?

Ridden many endurance rallies, have you?
No, I'm not nearly competitive enough.

12 hrs and 1073 miles???!!!! Damn!!Average speed = 89.41666 MPH

For 12 hours straight!!!!
I didn't just fall off the turnip wagon yesterday, though -- I've ridden with many competitive types (not my bag).

I didn't say you couldn't participate without 'racing' -- but, you probably won't 'win'....

the R-word is verboten in sanctioned IBR events. it's about time management. speed may have one small part to do with the whole but that's more to do with you having a nearly-impossible task of making up for time wasted at zero mph.
