Went out to do some riding for the Big Money Rally today - collect a few more post offices. Some of them were very rural and I got my first taste of gravel road riding. No issues got through the short four miles with out a drop. After the last post office I turned and headed home. Noticed the two bars on the fuel gauge. Hmmmm wonder how far out I am and where some close gas is? I started for home but knew I would be hitting a town soon - I thought. Two bars became one, one started flashing - miles started counting up. Reached a gas station after going 20.3 on reserve. I knew I had read some threads on here about reserve distance but darned if I could recall that info from my noggin. Gased Yolanda up and finished the ride. The Blue Bonnets along the road were beautiful and every little town has a BBQ joint that also smells great.

ps. Have I said how much I love my FJR lately?

Work has had me running all over Tx the past couple weeks. Came home from Dallas via Navasota, Bedias, and Anderson on friday. Blue Bonnets are in full bloom. Too bad I was in my cage...

Reserve fuel on Gen II's is 1.45 gallons (per the Bin-O-Facts), so 50 miles is doable if you baby it -- but I get really antsy at 35 miles. I've taken my Gen I to 42 miles once, and it wouldn't run on the sidestand when I got to the gas station.

It's not really that low until it starts to sputter, and then you can rock it from side to side and get another 5 miles or so.

I've ridden as far as 268 miles before fueling up. I did put in 6.3 gallons at that stop. I still had a couple of miles to go before I would have been pushing.

Went on reserve about 3/4 of a mile before I planned on filling up on Wednesday. I put in 5.1 gallons, gas was just a hair over the fitting for the hose. (Not sure what the offical name is for that part.) Nice to know 1.5 gallons is pretty much the norm once on reserve and if you manage it right 50 miles easy.

Pictures?
The only pictures I got are on the Big Money Rally board under JoeV. Just a post office with the bike. That rally requires you to post only with your phone. I was several miles out before I realized I left my real camera in my cage. Bummer.

By the way y'all should be riding this rally. Its my first. Kind of a hoot. I am really enjoying it and gaining a greater appreciation of the riders that ride in the real rallies.

I did a big BMR ride a couple of days ago, and it really is a fun rally.

I rode up from the L.A. area to the Central Coast, and collected the 15 post offices bonuses available in the area. On the way back home I stopped in Ventura for the Channel Islands N.P. bonus. The weather was about perfect, and the Central Coast scenery in the spring is fantastic.

Loving the Blue Bonnets and other flowers but as usual, my sinuses are NOT happy this time of year.

I start flashing after using 5 gallons - so I've got 1.5 gallons, or 60 miles till dry.
