I had my Yamaha OEM Topcase bail on me on the Haul Road. I knew I should

have left it in Fairbanks, but didn't. So now I am weeks away from a 10 day rally

with no topcase.

I am looking for topcase suggestions. I am leaning towards a pelican case, but am

open to input. I really need the case for my laptop (A VERY heavy Panasonic "Toughbook")

along with a few items such as heated jacket, log book... I found a great "How To" on

mounting the very case I am looking at (1550) but it stated "The stock luggage rack didn't

lend itself to mounting the Pelican case". Now I am thinking I already have an OEM mounting

plate for the OEM trunk, Could this be effective? Is there a descriptive "How To" on this?

The article I am referring to is here:

https://fjr1300.info/howto/luggagerack.html

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated .

Am not familiar with the OEM mount but if it looks like this https://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/accessories/500/aba-2d261-30-00-500.jpg then thru bolts and spacers would do. I'd think about a wider plate to distribute the weight better. Go here https://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=128384 for additional ideas and tips. For the right price I'll rent you my Givi 55 and plate :) Hope this helps~Harvey

Givi, 5 point rack and whatever plate you need to mount your own top box to it. It would cope with just about anything, lots of miles no issues.

Not sure if this helps you on your timeline, but for others that may be of interest:

This is the main reason I went with a Tanji style external fuel tank. With separate cargo deck makes cleats for a Pelican (or StormCase pictured here) very simple. Disregard blue cooler

Mike Langford made this one.
