Was on a multi day trip this weekend and at one point the throttle didn't seem as responsive as it usually is. I then noticed I was in touring mode and not sport mode. I never touch the mode switch and always leave it in sport mode. I figured maybe I hit it by mistake. Anyway, later on in the day the same thing happened. At first I thought it was defaulting to Tour mode when I shut off and then restarted the engine at fuel stops. The next day it went into Tour mode in while I was under way. At the next stop I fiddled with the switch and discovered it was intermittent and lightly tapping it would cause it to change modes. Time to take it apart and see whats going on. If the switch is bad, I'll wire it to stay in Sport mode. The switch provides a ground to a signal wire into the ECU. I'll play with it to see if grounding it or leaving it open tells the ECU to go to Sport mode.

I think you will find that it's a momentary "break" switch, which when it breaks the circuit it toggles the mode (and then only if the throttle is closed). Sounds like you have an intermittent in the wiring or the switch contacts.

If you have it in the mode you want, then permanently connect its contacts, it should remain in that mode (unless the problem is in the wiring, of course).
