Anyone interested in doing some riding around the Taos area this weekend? I have no work until Wednesday and am looking to get out of the house, 3 kids drivin me nuts! :dribble: Anyways, I can head out anytime but was looking at going Saturday through Monday, maybe even Tuesday. I heard that the Motel 6 in Raton is nice so am looking to keep it cheap. $62 for Sat night, $42 for Sun night. I am looking at staying in Raton rather than Taos since it will be much cheaper, but am open to other options too, if you know of something else affordable in the area. Weather looks good, only 10% chance of rain each day so pack your rain gear cause we're gonna get wet. :D Can hit the Sand Dunes in CO, maybe Palo Duro Canyon on the way out or back too. Am open to suggestions. Just wanna ride dang it! B)

Now, now...I said it was decent not nice.

Nice would cost you at least $20 more a night.

Seriously, I just stayed there in June and it was ok. Rooms are freshly remodeled.

Wish I could make it. As I told you last night my front tire is as smooth as a baby's ass bottom and no funds right now to replace it.

There are really inexpensive/cheap '50s~'60s -style motels on the old highway in the old part of Raton (about half the $$ of chain motels). But they're really not nice. If you're just looking for a bed and a shower -- they work.

There is a very good old touristy (been there a long-time) steak-house along that old highway in the old part of Raton and it's worth a visit (if you're in the mood for a sit-down meal), imo.

Unfortunately, this idea is over with before it started. As soon as I got offline with you last night, things started popping up to put a kink in my plan. But the killer problem was a dr appt on Monday that I completely forgot about. Best to save my money for SWFOG I guess. Not as much fun though.

You would have loved it up there though. I spent 2 days camping and riding out of Sugarite Canyon. The ride up to Folsom from Raton is beautiful. The ride down to Cimarron the same but a little less twisty.

Well, I was about to email you back and thought I'd check the forum to see if you had any takers. Hate to hear your not getting to go. I still don't think I could have worked it out for me to go. Oh well. Maybe next time. Or, a trip this fall.

I loved riding through the Raton area on the way home from NAFO last year, and I saw the Taos area on the way up. So yeah, I will definitely be back to check it all out more thoroughly. I saw Folsom on the map and it made me think of the Johnny Cash song. Next time it looks like I can do this, I'll check in with you to find out more specifically which roads you did. I thought about you as I was looking at the map and seeing where Sugarite Canyon was.

GP - I'll take you up on that!

CMF - Thanks for the tips, I'll remember them!
