That eBay caliper is from a non-ABS 1st Gen bike.

There is less of a chance that it would work on your 2nd gen bike than if it were from an ABS 1st gen.

It still might fit, but you'd probably have to try it to know for sure.

Hi folks
Here is the 04 caliper for sale https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160986837149?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Here is my caliper: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B1D0uxSV8NCXR2R2VTBoOWV0MUU/edit?usp=sharing

As some said, the bleep nipple is different - that's the main difference.

Two questions:

1) Can you spot which pin isnt straight?

2) Does anyone have the distance between the floating pin holes on the caliper for the 04 model and I can compare?

3) Does anyone have photos of their pins so I can compare if mine are straight ? :)

Thanks

Gareth
Your caliper is exactly the same with my caliper. If the caliper from the 06/-12 can fit in 03/04/05,i believe the caliper where i see in the e-bay will fit in your bike!

I guess I'm missing something. It seems the eBay caliper is different than your, mine or the OP's.

I'd be hesitant to try the eBay caliper based on that. I'd rather find one that at least looks like the others.

Fred,

If the caliper from 06/-12 can fit in a 04/05 i believe,a caliper from a 04/05 can fit in 06/-12 model..Why not..?!Yes the caliper where i see in e-bay is different in the bleed screw area..Probably is a caliper from a 03/model..or from an early months 04/,but i believe the rear calipers from03/ 04/05 can fit in 06/-12 and vice versa..

There were two quite distinct versions of rear brake calipers, those with ABS, and those without.

The ones with ABS seem to have very similar rear brakes (regardless of generation). The ones without ABS are the ones more in question.

Again. we'll never really know until some one tries the cross fitting. But, as far as I'm aware, nobody has done so yet.

Agree with you Fred that the calipers are different for the abs model and nobody has done this yet,but i believe the difference perhaps are in the bracket of the caliper in the point where the bracket fit between the rear wheel and the rear arm.The caliper itself i believe are same except the difference in the bleed screw area..The Gareth can install only the caliper in his bracket if the brackets are different in this area..This is my personal opinion and this not mean that is the correct 100%..!

Thanks chaps. Think I'm going to give it a try. Laws here mean I can send it back if I decide I don't want it.

Best

Gareth

Hi folks

Just to confirm a 2003 nonabs caliper fits a 2008 fine despite different part numbers. Only difference seems to be that they moved bleed nipple for easier access.

Best

Thanks for coming back with the info - could be very useful for someone else finding themselves in a similar predicament.

Sorry came to this link a bit late. I've two non ABS FJRs and an ABS one and can confirm that the rear calipers are interchangeable. I've fitted an ABS rear caliper to one of the non ABS bikes. The only difference is the position of the bleed nipple.
