Glad to read that you weren't hurt worse.

It generally isn't too hard to have the dealership write it up as totalled. Have them tally every damn thing wrong on the bike.

I hope you can get the '06 to replace it.

Regards,

Ron

I'm happy we're talkin' wit ya instead of about ya Brudda !!! Heal up right and I concur wholeheartedly with WC and the rest of the feejer flock...total the bike and get ya another one !

Take it Easy,

Bobby

I got rear-ended while riding one of my other bikes ( Virago ) recently. Quite a shock when it happens. It was a fairly slow speed blow and I suffered no injuries. A quick look around the bike didn't reveal any real damage. A closer inspection at the dealer a little later, however, exposed more damage than originally suspected. You've got to be really dilligent in assessing damage, even after a seemingly minor event.

Glad you think your Ok. If you can't drive or work with muscle relaxers, add that to the insurance bill. Hard enough hit to have your puppet strings plucked, you don't want the bike fixed. Rear frame is bolt on and there is no telling what damage to swingarm, rearend, or any other parts of the bike. ALmost nobody is certified to work on aluminum frames. Get a good mouthpiece. TJ

Stopped by the dealership to review the estimate on my bike today. About $6100 parts and labor plus sales tax.

The highlights include rear subframe, exhaust (frt to back), rear wheel, body panel, and seat.

Not included are Frame and swingarm. . . . .

I've talked to the insurance company, and they have agreed to pay to have the bike Computrack'd based on my concerns, but this will have to be done before the dealerships makes its other repairs.

I'll keep you posted.

Yeah.... I would walk away from the structural integrity loss of that machine...

Not worth it for you... Get a new machine, and don't let the insurance company play games with you... or sue their a$$es off...

New bike '06 or '05 or no deal... you could do way better then that in my eyes..... but if your nice... you can easily meet in the middle... :)

Great advice from everyone. This same thing happened to me in 1985. Reading the posts, the important things I remember from my incident:

Uninsured Motorist coverage is necessary. Remember, if the guy can't afford insurance, how much money do you think you'll get out of him or her?

LAWYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They get a third, but they are pros at wringing every last dollar out of this thing. If your repairs are only $6100 they will want to fix it.

DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your lawyer will insist you go to physical therapy, etc. If not for your sake, at least to wrack up the med bills. It increases his third, but also helps prove your pain and suffering. Depending on your age, only time will tell how hurt you are. don't be a tough guy, let them work on you.

New helmet for sure. If your other gear is scuffed, etc, let them buy you new stuff.

Main advice- don't let them bully you into an unsatisfactory decision. If you suspect the bike isn't going to be right, you will ALWAYS think that, and won't enjoy riding it

with the same confidence you do now. Nit pick the bike to death to raise the estimate. Moldings for the top case? **** that! New topcase! Make your bike as it was before the dipshit hit you. If you like the 05 better than the 06, ask for the check to be made out to you instead of the shop. Maybe you can find one out there somewhere.

In 1985, I was rearended at a stop sign by a drunk driving a datsun b210. I went up over the top and into the street. Totaled the CAR. My three month old Interceptor was totaled as well. NO broken bones, minor roadrash, helmet destroyed. I didn't want to be a ****, so I didn't press for a big settlement, didn't go to therapy, didn't go after the guy.

They paid my med bills, paid off the bike loan, and after my lawyer fees, I think I walked with about 3 grand. Not sure, but I might do it differently next time.

Glad you're ok.

Good luck

Driving in Michigan is like everyone is un-insured. Michigan No-Fault law make the maximum you can get from the other party $400, barely covers the deductible.

Hi,

I don't want to tell you what to do. But I know that if I were you, I would be doing the same thing you are doing, even if it meant typing with my tongue. ;)

Thank (please select your higher power here) that you are seemingly OK. :D

Please do whatever you think is right, but please do it right now, OK. ;)

I'm only hoping that you are posting these messages because you are taking those pain candies and don't realize what has happened to you. You, not your bike, have been injured :(

Please take care of yourself, or don't it is up to you :) .

Get a Law dude, or not :) .

Get the insurance co. to pay for a new bike, or not  .

Please forget about the bike and concentrate on your well being, and that of your near and extended family and friends. They care about YOU way more than you care about any possession you own.

Believe it or not, we are all a big community of help and support. If it helps you by posting your troubles with these issues, please continue because all of us know we may be next one to go down :dribble:

Plan for tomorrow as if you will live forever.

G*D DAMNIT!! WHAT THE **** IT WRONG WITH PEOPLE???
Uhhhh...

I can answer that.

The average American automobile driver is a f*cking stone-cold moron, with his/her head buried in one of two places - his/her ***, or his/her cell-phone conversation...

(Note - the average American automobile driver is a f*cking stone-cold moron, due to the not-so-surprising fact that the average American is a f*cking stone-cold moron... )

We are their superiors - - in every aspect.

Sorry 'bout your pain, dude. In some small way, I shall endeavor to exact vengeance on some hapless, witless cager tomorrow.

(Shouldn't be hard to find one of those... )

Ouch, ouch, ouch...glad to hear your OK but, what really hurts is the 6 month wait for your new 06 FJR, make them replace it. You don't want to trust it with your life or your passenger's. Good luck with whatever you do.

Glad you're vertical. Hope you're just a little sore and nothing more.

I had an XS11 that got rear-ended. A couple of years later the rear frame broke. Talk to the dealer - tell him you want it back in as-new condition. Hopefully he can find some more things wrong with it.

Hey Gryphon68 -

It's been awhile - how you doin? Feelin ok? What's the latest on the bike? Did you sue? Give us an update.

Really hope your well and your pain was minimal. I was just rear-ended in my car last month on the way to work and afterwards everyone said to me "What if you'd been on your bike?". Get's ya thinkin.

Glad you're ok.

Had a close call and the cager (also a minivan) at least had the sense to swerve and came to a stop next to me.

Kinda got my adrenalin a-pumpin.
