OK throwing my blatant ignorance out there for guidance.

As I still don't have my first FJ yet, What is the diff in Hard vs soft? Hard for one up twisties soft for two up touring?

Please splane Lucy

For the stock shock, the soft setting works only when

there is no-one on the bike, and no luggage. Even

then, I think there is too much sag.

Really, I'm a lightweight, and even I can't ride with it on soft.

Yah, Unless your under 170 lbs, there is no adjustment.Set to hard and forget that adjustment.
Not on the 06! I'm over 300lbs, and the hard setting with empty saddlebags was too stiff for me, it chattered over bumbs in some corners. I put it on soft and it works much better one up.

I think they changed the spring rates again.

I would agree. I'm ~195 lbs, and the soft setting on my '06 soaked up a ton of road chatter that would have been completely annoying on my old bike. Very smooth!

Quick, someone ring up Klaus and see what they have for the '06's! ;) My advice: As soon as you can and as soon as they become available, **** can the stock suspenders and upgrade to good stuff. You won't believe the difference! ;)

Just a guess -but those that think Hard is too stiff after the shock has some miles on it should dial in more rebound damping to go with the load and stiffer rate and try again. Makes a big difference.

I started with Sport Rider's settings on my 2004, and found a huge improvement over the soft factory settings. Then, knowing that I weigh about the same as two mag-editors (but also ride slower on worse roads) I added more (all) front preload and increased all the damping settings a little more and tested it again -even better and the way it is now.

I can't get it better without replacing rear shock and front springs and adding gold valves.
