Ah yes, how time flies.I somewhat recall a meeting for breakfast, was it in Utah, 2007??, of various senior riders. Result was a "group" wanting a name. After much debate and too much breakfast, the "Vintages Riders" were established. There were minium age requirements, but not much else.

"Members" continued with the breakfast meetings at various FJR Functions. As I recall the last one was in Eureka at the Somoa Cookhouse.

There may have been some meetings since, but I don't know.

If I recall correctly FJR Vintage Riders was formed in either 2006 or 2007 at the Annual WFO events. As I recall about 7 riders in the original group including Mad Mike Krause, Joseph( MCML), FJRay, Longrider, Kaitsdad(Hal Risser), me and several other who names I can't recall(senior moments!!). Last meeting I attended was at Somoa Cookhouse due to health issues. I do believe another Vintage Riders gathering was held prior to the demise of WFOs. Hats and t-shirts and other items were available on Cafe Press which was set up by one of our members.

My memory of how this all unfolded agrees with what's been posted so it is probably seriously flawed.

MCML,Joseph you were a charter member even though you were a bit younger than the rest of the charter members. Remember?? good to hear you are still kickin and ridin.

Dave, great to hear that you are full of vinegar. Oddly or not, I do remember the breakfast in Park City. I remember thinking "Why fhe heck are we doing this so bloody eatly in the morning!?" Now, of course, I understand.

Question Dave......why do you guys do this on a Monday? Wouldn't you get a better turnout on a Saturday or Sunday when more people are off work??

Just wondering because I'd like to come on a ride but have to work during the week.

At our startup in 2004 our members decided that riding during Monday thru Thursday was best for us, mostly as being retired riders. As an example of our flexibility on rides down to Julian we would meetup with riders liming in Temecula down in that region. We can be flexible if there is a good ride on another day of the week. Of course some might be able to ride due to other conflicts. PM me your name address and email and I will add u to the group if you are interested.

Ole Foggie Riders-new roads and new friends

Sometimes on a ride it’s the group of familiar riders you are with, sometimes it is a destination and sometimes it’s all about new roads and new people. Today was about new roads and some old and new riders.

The group is called Old Foggy Riders by the leader and one of its original founders Turbo-Dave. Dave rides an FJR sport-touring model but has an 11.4 gallon combined gas capacity including the stock 6.6 gallon tank and an added 4.8 gallon tank and rack on the back end; he just never needs to stop. With Dave is Hans another of the original OFR guys. Showing up today is also CSI-Jim with a Road Star from Southern Cruisers and another Jim on a Harley also from SCRC, another new addition is John on his Royal Star Venture. I have ridden with this bunch on more than one occasion and always enjoyable.

The ride starts early at the 57 and Imperial Ave. parking lot by Lucile’s in Brea where I meet Chuck, Carolyn and Wayne at about 6:45 AM. I was not sure Wayne was going to make it but sure enough he shows up. Both Carolyn and I have ridden with Dave and Hans but Wayne and Chuck have not. We head out towards the I-15 and 4th St. in Ontario where we will meet the rest of the crew. We arrive rather early and it is cold, time to put on a fleece jacket under the Tourmaster, soon the others arrive, we get a group photo and off we go. One thing is certain, between Turbo-Dave and Hans they know just about every road that you might want to take a motorcycle on in any given direction in all of Southern California.

As we head for our eventual lunch stop at Lake Henshaw on Hwy 76 near Mt. Palomar we start down some very interesting and challenging roads including Sage and Wilson Valley, both new roads for me, Chuck, Carolyn and Wayne and maybe a couple others as well, rolling, twisty and plenty of curves but fun to be on. This takes us to the famous Aguanga stop on Hwy 79 where we turn left towards Warner Springs and Lake Henshaw.

Arriving at the vast inland sea of Lake Henshaw which stretches for many feet in several directions, we stop for lunch and all is good. At least there is still water out there, but in the not too distant future it will probably wind up a dry lake bed.

After a good lunch, and an energetic ride up I-15 to the 91 I arrive home around 2:30 PM or so. Great ride, wonderful company and all ends safely.

Great to see that you are out and about.
I would love to hook up with you guys sometime. You ever ride on Tuesdays?
Good to hear from you Steve. I suppose we could if that would make you available. It is difficult to make just about any day for those of you LUCKY working riders!!
