I Miss Beemerdons!
Ray,
I suffer from a bad back AND a bad front!!!
L4/L5 vertebrae issues combined with major abdominal surgeries back in 2001-02. Between the two issues, I haven't slept lying flat for 11 years now. I HAVE to sleep in a recliner, because I just can't stretch out flat.
To that issue, I selected a "Big Man" La-Z-Boy rocker/recliner back in '01 in fabric. I find it's great for hours of relaxed sitting upright, using the rocker features, and when I want to "hit the sack" I just use the "gearshift" on the side of the chair to extend the footrest and I'm out like a light in minutes.
You should head out to your local La-Z-Boy dealer and check 'em out. Make SURE you go for the "Big Man" version, as the backrest is MUCH taller...8-10 inches...than the standard recliner, and the footrest is 2-way adjustable for varying leg lengths.
They're not cheap -- around 700-800 $$$ -- but if it wasn't for my La-Z-Boy, I wouldn't have had a decent night's sleep in over a decade!
