I recently purchased a 2007 in the USA and I may be interested in getting the altitude bug fixed (replace ECU). It is my understanding that this is a free fix but I'm pretty sure my local Yamaha place won't do it for a bike that was originally sold in the States. I'm in New Brunswick Canada, only an hour or so from the Maine border and I would like to find a GOOD Yamaha service center within reasonable driving distance. I would call them to make the arrangements and hopefully they can make the swap while I wait; at least the same day. So, who would you recommend?

Thanks

Ross

Edit: Just realized that I probably shouldn't have posted in this section. Please move to more appropriate location.

It works here as your planning to ride to the Maine dealership, right?

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Northern Maine dealers. Hopefully one of the resident Mainiacs will pop in with a suggestion for you soon. About the closest I would expect would be in Bangor.

Location in New England isn't a big deal, as long as I can make arrangements to get same day service. I ride into the area at least a few times each year. Although NH or ME would be ideal, VT or upstate NY could work for me. Leaving the bike for a period of time is not an option.

I broke down in Rangeley Maine back in 2007 and my bike was brought into a dealership in Oakland Maine called North Country Powersports. I was really impressed by their professionalism, quality and cleanliness of their shop. Very accomodating guys who helped me out of a bad spot.

Not trying to be a smartass, but, why don't you call some dealerships and ask. This is a manufacturer warranty upgrade. I'm not sure that your dealership would refuse to do the work. FYI, I was allowed to uninstall mine and carry it into the dealership for a hand to hand swap. It really is a very small job and pretty difficult to screw up. I know of a number of dealers who allowed customer swaps.

Canadian FJR
Good to know that there is someone in the Maritimes who knows these bikes and can do good work. My concern this time is for the ECU fix which I doubt a Canadian dealer will do on a US bike.

The closest major Yamaha dealer I can think of in Maine would be Friend & Friend in Ellsworth. The service mgr used to have an FJR. I traveled there on business up until retirement almost 4 years ago so personnel may have changed.
