R.I.P. Our FJR Riding Friend
Okay, the sky wasn't blood red the day we visited Red Rocks. The crew was getting the stage ready for a band that has nothing to do with U2. Oh well. It would have been nice to catch U2 at Red Rocks while here ;-) Maybe I can convince the wife to stay long enough to go catch Jack Johnson on the 24th???
Anyway, I grew up a 40 minute bicycle ride from Red Rocks and I grew up exploring the various heights and depths of the place. Yep, there are a LOT of underground caves and tunnels. I got really into spelunking the place when I was a kid. I was always scared that I would find a body down there. I did not. Phew!
Anyway, back to the present. We are staying with my brother and sister-in-law in their very nice place in Idledale. Here is their website. It is kinda neat.
Bro's Webpage
Idledale is just a few minutes ride down Morrison Road (one of the best twisties in existence).
Here are some pics of our time at Red Rocks on paths well worn, and those lesser known:
A picture of formations from the side entrance:
A picture of Red Rocks Amphitheatre from the South side:
Many areas that I used to hang out are now off limits...how do they restore rock? Sorry if I am the one that messed it up...I left NO TRASH EVER!
A cool picture up a canyonette up to the Red Rocks Trading Post:
A view of the bike in front of one of the rocks that surround the amphitheather (Titanic Rock, more commonly known now as Ship Rock):
The other big rock (Creation Rock)that sandwiches the amphitheatre:
