Ex-vmaxer here as well and I'm really digging the new design. First off, to most of the MC world thought the Vmax was ugly to begin with. Nothing has changed since the new one still borrows the lines and overall appearance. If you didn't like it then, you prollie won't like it now. Nothing wrong with that.
The pipes seem to be everyone's big gripe. Most are confused why the sweep up. It's a clearence design. The new Vmax was made to do somethign the original couldn't do very well at all, handle the twisties. I've seen some footage of the new max getting very far over in a corner. This is great since when I started doing that with my 97', I started grinding pegs and the pipes.
As for the price, well, they gotta get their money out of the R&D somehow. With limited production, the price goes up, standard rule of economics. As much as I'd love to have the new max sitting next to the FJR in the garage, I'll have to wait for a used one.
Oh and someone was wondering the if the new engine would still fit into a venture frame. The answer is no. Not unless you are going to cut the frame and reweld. The new bike has a totally new frame that was made to fit the motor and while it has the overall look of the old V4, it's dimentiones are totally different in almost every reguard. Sure as hell would be nice if you could stuff that beast into a venture frame.
