When replacing front brake pads on GEN II, I’m not able to remove the caliper to replace the pads.

Can someone share the process of removing front pads on GEN FJR?

Right now, I have the caliper loose, by removing the two bolts. What am I missing?

No need to remove the calipers, just remove the bolts that hold the pads in, lift the old pads out, drop the new ones in, and put the bolts back in.

Oh, don't touch the front brake lever before you get the new pads back in.

No bolts to remove, don't unbolt the calipers.

Take a look at the pic above. With a pair of needle-nose plyiers, remove the "hairpin" clips (arrows at #10 & #21)

slide out the pad retaining clips (arrows at #8 ^ #19) and pull the pads right out the top of the calipers.

Easy-peasy...5 minute job.

Hell, I even screen-grabbed a pic from RonAyers.com's 2007 front caliper fiche....didn't notice there were only 4 pads total.

***'n Gen II, anyway.

Now wait...I just checked again...that's the pic for an '07 right from Ron Ayers' fiche...8 pads total...that's a Gen II.

Just check the fiche pic for 2009...same hairclip/pin setup as what I posted above.

Guess I need to stop trying to help out.

Pass me that bowl, howie...............it ain't science rocket...........

So were you able to get the calipers off? That's super easy too, but as said, not necessary to change the pads.

I remove mine just so I can clean the pistons and the internals.

I got it. Works perfect. That diagram did help, but as you all know, I don't have those clips.

Question: According to service manual, it says: Brake pad lining thickness (inner) 5.5 (.22inch). Limit .5mm (.02 inch).

Should I measure the pad with metal or just the braking pad compound?

Just the pad material.

You CAN remove your calipers. How else do you think you would take the wheel off.

Measure the pad thickness? .02 of an inch? YGTFBKM!

Pad material there? You're ok. Scraping metal, or nearly so? Replace pads.

So, looking at this: Brake pad lining thickness (inner) 5.5 (.22inch). Limit .5mm (.02 inch).

Well, I'm between 1/8 and 3/16, so that is that?

1/8=0.125 or 3.75 mm

3/16=0.1875 or 4.7625 mm

Guess you're fine for a while.

I'm telling you, quit worrying about the measurement! If there is material there, then there is material there!

Stress less, ride more!
