I'm getting ready to remove the fuel rail to install a Audiovox on my '07. Yes, I've looked at the long drill method but my hands are too fat and short to get into there to attach the bits and pieces once the hole is drilled with the rail in place.

I've read many of the posts regarding doing this. I see how I can hold on to the metal spacers when I remove the bolts. But I didn't see any pictures or discussion on where the O rings are:

1) Are they compressed inside of the fuel rail's head which fits over the injector or

2) Do they fit over a "nubbin" on the top of the injector and the fuel rail pushes down on them

3) How big are they

I'm assuming that if I lift the rail away in-line with the injectors they will stay in place or do they like to "jump"off?

Thanks in advance,

Roy

Roy, the O-rings are actually square, and sit over the tips of the injectors. When you ease out the fuel rail with the injectors attached, the rings will be in one of two places: the injector port in the head, or still on the injector tip.

Once you remove the rail, place some tape over those injector holes - you don't want to drop anything down them.

And don't pinch the ring when you re-install the rail - cause it can be fun to deal with - Fun with O-Rings

I'm sure you know because you've read, but those screws holding the fuel rail down are TIGHT! Use an impact driver to remove them! I didn't remove mine and because I have long hands, I found the telescopic magnet tool worth it's weight in gold on getting that small screw, ball chain and nut installed on the tang after drilling my hole with the long drill bit.

Now you scared me

I think I might be confused (what's new). Is the fuel rail just the metal portion or are the orange bodies as well the metal that goes between them the rail?

I was thinking the rings were between the metal between and the orange body.

There are some decent photos here of a fuel rail assembly being removed: <Link>

The "O rings go between the injectors and the head. The locations (for the "O" rings and injectors) are covered by tape in this photo:

Considering the risk, your trepidation and big mitts, I'd be attempting it with the long bit, needle nose pliers & hemostats.

Sticky wax (1129K14) helps hold hardware on tools until it's in position.

You can always yank the rail later if it proves impossible.

Or at that point you have the tank off you could remove a couple of bolts, unhook a couple of hoses, and have the entire airbox out of the way. Unfettered access is hard to beat.

EDIT: So I had to take my airbox out for another reason today. It's not quite as easy as I remembered it.
