I just bought an '05 FJR. Actually, I bought it from my son's widow. The bike has not been ridden since his death in December of last year. I started the bike once during the winter and it started fine. When I wheeled it out of the garage today it wouldn't turn over. Dead Battery. I got it started once by pushing it and let it run for about 15 minutes before shutting it off. It still would not start. Now, here is where I need your help. I am going to replace the battery. I know (believe) the battery is located at the right front of the bike. Could someone help and give me some basic instructions as to which panels to remove and any other information pertaining to replacing the battery? Yep, you guessed it. Can't find the owner's manual.

Thanks,

Burt Q

Have you looked under the seats for the manual? There is a lock (that uses the ignition key) on the left side of the bike that releases the front seat. The rear seat can then be removed. You should also find a small, semi-useless tool kit.

Burt-

Madmike2 gave you all the resources you'll need to accomplish your battery replacement. It's a bit of a PITA

but not overwhelming. Be careful, take your time and you'll get it.

It may be possible someone in your locale couild assist you to make sure the bike is "Good To GO."

Best of luck and let us know how it goes. Welcome to the forum...

Thanks for all the info. It looks to be simple enough once you know where everything is. I have had the seats off and the tool kit and the manual are not under there. If the owner's manual doesn't show up, I will order a new one. As for the tool kit, my experience with the Warrior, it's just extra weight.

Go to the Yamaha web site, click on "Procede to Owners Manual". Voila. By clicking on the upper tab "Parts & Service" you can access the parts fiche for your FJR too. And, it's FREE!

By the way, I answered rather quickly in my original post. Have you tried putting the battery on a Battery Tender for 24 hours? Bump starting the bike and running it for 15 minutes WILL NOT charge the battery, that would take an hour or more, it at all.

:clapping: Welcome to the forum!! :clapping:

As an owner of an '05 I who loves his FJR, my hopes are high for your riding experience. I'm sorry for the process by which you became an owner.

Pulling the dash covers is easy...the second or third time and once your used to how the little tabs interlock, etc. Replacing the battery isn't anymore difficult than on other bikes, the location is a bit awkward.

You might want to put some "painters tape" (the blue stuff) on the tank where the edges of the fairing are near. It is a bit tight when you slide the pieces around to get them lifted off.

A week after I bought my 04 I had to change the battery, just wouldn't hold a charge longer than 24hrs. Yamamama wanted nearly $180 Cdn for a replacement. After giving them a look, the parts guy found an aftermarket battery for $80. Same brand I've had in my Honda for about 2 years. Thats the ticket.

After pulling the throttle side inner fairing panels and being amazed at how stupid of a location for a battery that is. A little coaxing to get it out, the new battery was in and buttoned up. Total time for the job was about 45 minutes. Keep in mind it was the first time I'd removed the panels, hell, first time I ever even worked on the bike. Their is pretty much zero room above the battery, so be careful if you've got a set of Battery Tender pig tails on there. (Mine did, but the positive wasn't even hooked up!).

Good bet your battery won't recover.

Installing a new one is the best way to go.

When you're shopping for a new battery be careful of going "cheap".

You mostly get what you pay for.

Ok, I replaced the battery today. Tried to get a battery at the local Sears and they didn't have one in stock, but they would be glad to order one for $216.00 or so. No thanks! The whole thing just confused the young girl working at the Auto Zone store. So off to the Yamaha dealer where the bike was originally purchased. The parts guy took the battery and tested it. It would take a charge but as soon as a load was applied to it, it would fail. So, new battery. $150.00 bucks. Still high, but I was determined to ride that bike today!!

The removal and installation went pretty well. Just took my time and tried to remember all the tips from the forum. The bike started immediately after the new battery was installed. Took my first ride, very different feel and sound from the Warrior. Gonna enjoy it. Thanks to everyone for the help. I'm sure I will be back for more help in the future, please bear with me.

Real good group here, any problems you have they can more than likely help you fix. Just be careful on Fridays and look up the FAQ'S in the recommended readings, most of the answers are there, trust me.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your son.

Oh sure....give us a reputation that we can't live up to!

Bert, All of the above & glad to have U here. Sorry about the loss of your son. It's not the sequence we would like to see.

Later, De :)

I see you replaced your battery already but just thought I'd post a link to the place I ordered my battery from last week. It arrived in 5 days free shipping and is rated at 180CC amps vers the stock 135CC.

https://www.ebatteriestogo.com/landing_page...ort/UB14B-4.htm

It's the Power Source WP14B-4 Sealed AGM and slipped right in the mount of the old battery.

I was surprised my old battery was the original stock battery. Lasted longer than one would think.

Use that battery tender - about $20 at Walmart will buy you what you need! Don't forget Jeff at Bikeeffects as listed in the Vendor forum - he lists batterys and gives forum members a discount. (you're welcome Jeff!)
