Replace Gen ll Shock with Gen lll

I have a 2008 with almost 40k and am wanting to replace the rear shock with a Gen lll. I've read that they will fit but what year would I order? When I look at the part number, '13-'15 are one number and '16 is different. Anyone know why and which one should I get?

Yamaha changed manufacturers for the '16 suspension. I would imagine that and minor tweaks / improvements led to a p/n change.

If I were going your direction, I'd search out the least costly upgrade. Easy way to find best pricing is a p/n search on your favorite search engine...then check out the results. A '13-'15 shock should be a nice improvement over your OE GEN II shock.
