It has been awhile since I replaced front/rear tires and am going to need to order soon.

Got the last two pairs of Pirelli Diablo Strada's from SW Moto and want to know if there is a better price out there.

I paid around 120 for the front and about 150 for the rear, back ini June of 08.

I know, In know, no need to remind me, ride MORE... :headbonk:

Thanks in advance.

Don't know the price, Rhody, but was curious about mileage you got on the Pirellis...bigjimbiker
Hi big JM

I drive locally mostly and fairly aggressive, on fairly poor secondary (relatively speaking roads).

I would say about 5000 - 5500 tops (for the rear) more left on front, but I change both.

These tires are awesome, no hum out of them cornering until over 50% of tread is gone, they let go predictably, and have great grip.

I have asked others on this board (who I trust) and they by far are still the best (for my needs at least).

Inflate the rear 42 and front to 40 PSI, and always ride without pillion.

Hope this helps.

South West Moto -- Diablo Strada Front: $109.95 Rear: $153.95 (E) = $263.90 with free shipping. This is about the best deal I've found from a reputable dealer. Some places have the tires for a few dollars less but charge shipping. The wonderful shopping site Ebay has the rear for $172 ;)

I just burned up my third set of Stradas (E spec) and have been getting >12k miles out of the rears, the fronts look like they may have ~2k more left but I will change them as a set. About 75% of my riding is two up and fully loaded; this does not imply that my riding is all slab or slow B)

I have held onto the best front tire so that in an emergency I have a spare tire. I used my emergency rear tire last year.

I'd like to try a set of Pilot Road 2s but this year money really matters.

Thanks Rhody...I just replaced the OE Metzlers (8,000 miles) with Michelin PR 2's. Out the door I paid about

$450.00 which included mounting on the bike, a new set of 90 degree valve stems, disposal fee, tax, etc.

I'm hoping to get a few more miles out of this set...bigjimbiker

Thanks iobeam,

I will stick with sw moto, good to know that they still offer great prices and fast delivery. Will order a new set this week.

Rhody... :good:

I just logged in to SW Moto to buy my tires and they list the front as out of stock, based on those who bought Diablo Strada's in the past, how long does it take for them to get more tires, in this case more fronts ?

I left a note with the order, to not charge my credit card until they had both in stock and we about to ship, and to let me know by e-mail if they would not be getting more fronts in to sell in two weeks.

Thanks...

Grrrr, just was informed that the Diablo Strada for the front is being discontinued and the Sales Rep wanted to know if I wanted a substitute an Angel ST for the front instead.

Not sure about the profile, compatibility, etc... with the Diablo Strada E type rear.

Any advice would be most appreciated, ionbeam, haulinashe... ?

As always thanks in advance...

i'm new to the FJR; bought a new '08 last april. i put 7300 miles on the original metzlers & they look like they don't have much life left in them. I was thinking about trying the Dunlop Roadsmart, there was an online sale through Cycle Gear a week ago - package deal on a pair for $220. Has anybody out there tried them & what do you think?

I've used one rear DR, it seemed to be a good tire. I bought it while on a road trip when the rear I had on the bike went south. I need to run a set as a whole and see how they do.

I had been buying the Strada's from SWMoto as well, they had the best price I could find. The last set I bought was from Motosport.com they were a little higher but had both Stradas in stock.

I also have a set of the new Avon Storm 2's on the way from SWMoto, interested to see how those work out.

Thanks, Randy, FJR-Don,

SW Moto finally got some fronts in stock, but sadly they are being discontinued.

Frustrating too because I know how these tires handle/wear etc.... and except for cold weather performance (which I am used to now) they are really good tires (at least to me).

The two links you guys provided had the fronts in stock but they were more expensive.

Now, if I can only find a vendor who will sell me three more sets of Strada's they should last as long as I plan to keep the FJR.

Last 3 sets have been Diablo Strada, great tire for me. Just purchased a set of Angel ST, Motorcycle Super Store $273. Putting them on tomorrow. Will update when I get some miles on them.

JAY BIRD,

This is my second set, and I know exactly what to expect from them, in the wet, cold, used to it by now. I get about 5000 out of a set, and you ? Mostly I ride solo, sans bags...

edit:

I just scrubbed in my new tires. It may be my imagination playing tricks on me but they seem to track better, than say even 1/2 used ones, the corner I almost blew the entry in last fall I took passing a car 1000 yards before hitting the brakes hard then trailing the rear into the corner, it felt so much better more planted secure that mid corner I just gently got on the gas and took the last 1/2 of the corner 15 mph faster than last year, this time with 100% confidence that the front and read were not going to break loose. Tell me it is my imagination folks...
