First post as a new member (see my post in new members section). I'm sure some of you have had some experience with this area. Dropped my bike recently in some gravel and scratched up the right saddlebag lid. Ordered a new one from Gary at University Motors (great prices and service) but got stuck when it came time to replace it. Found another post about how the hinges are riveted on. Am only vaguely familiar with pop-rivets. If I drill the old ones out, how can I get access to the space between the black inner liner and the blue cover to stick the new one on? I can't see how to make it work if I come in blind from the outside only. Any suggestions appreciated.

TIA

Tom

I also need to replace my lid cover due to a drop. I looked briefly at the hinge and figured I'd just drill out the rivets. Now with your observation I'll look at it more closely. I plan on working on it Sunday. If I come up with an easy solution I'll post it. If you beat me to the punch please post your fix.

Hi, guys - thanks for you interest. Smitty on the other forum says if he remembers correctly he just drilled out the old rivets and used some slightly larger ones. I bought only the blue outer lid (which comes bonded to the black inside part; has black rub strip but no reflector). Suggested list is anywhere from $475 to $525; Gary's price is $325 plus a few bucks for shipping. There is a complete set (both sides) for sale on the old forum; he says Yamaha lists them for $2025 - way too rich for me. Motorgod - let me know how it turns out. If the pop-rivets can go in blind, then you can just come in from the outside. If they need to come from the inside out, then it's going to be a little tougher.
