Will be staying in Republic, WA next Monday with some other MC buddies. Any eateries (dinner, b-fast) one would recommend?

I have been through this town many times on the bike. Never layed over for a night.

Don't seem like there are a whole lot of choices in the town.

Thank Mates!

You made me look!

I was thinking of checking out Hwy20 after the Kootenay Gut Buster (WCR2). Republic looks like an interesting spot for a sleepover.

I would check out the brewery. https://www.republicbrew.com/index.html

From their site:

'There are four establishments serving food within a minute walk of the taproom, including Tamarack Pizza, just next door. We even do the dishes!'

Hope you will do a Ride Report?

Al.

I just spent the night in Republic and ate breakfast and dinner at the Sportsman Bar and Grill. I've also eaten there on previous trips and always had good food and good service.

I've eaten at the sportsman a couple of times and wasn't disappointed. Was there Sunday but didn't' stop.

That would be my endorsement too visiting 2 or 3 times over the past several years. The brewery certainly has a barrel of peanuts and great brew, but a great arrangement with the pizza place two doors down to deliver stuff to your table. The owners are in their 20's with physics degrees (or something equally Bill Nye'ish), but decided to turn their talents towards chemistry of hops, barley, and yeast. They've mastered their craft in a little berg of a county seat in the foresty bit of NE Washington.

My story about the Sportsman.

Arrived in town late and stayed at the old hotel. The hotel owner called the Sportsman and ask if they would keep the kitchen open until I got there. Answer was yes! Awesome because I was starving. Ordered the "Big Steak". Yes that is what they called it. The steak was terrible but I was starving so it was the best worst steak I have ever had.

Had many meal there since the "best worst steak" and they have all been good.

Also +1 on the brewery.

I did look up the Brewery a few days back, and they are only open Wed-Sat. We'll be in town on a Monday. :(

But thanks for the other tips!

Good info, thanks!

I don't understand how you could be starving. I thought the point of that Smuggler was to be full of 'emergency pie'?

We've always been going through Republic, not staying. When you stop you keep hearing "Dueling Banjos" in the wind. jsns.

You will be arriving in Republic as the Washington State BMW rally is ending. Their rally is Thursday 25 July ~ Sunday 28 July 2013 at the fairgrounds in Republic. Hope they leave the place in good shape

I haven't eaten there, but watch for deer in town or else you might have fresh meat to grill after hitting it on your FJR (usually an expensive way to get steaks).

I was hunting near there late last year and there was a HUGE Mule deer buck bedded down in the weeds on an empty lot in the middle of town. There's a reason those big bucks get so big - they hang out where they know they're safe from us blood thirsty killers.

And then when the wife and I rode through there at the end of June, there were at least 3 deer in town. I stopped for pictures and 2 of them crossed HWY 20 in a marked crosswalk while an old lady patiently waited for them to cross.

For the most convenient food in town plunk yourself down on a stool in the brewery. When you get hungry ask for a menu. A great pizza place is on one side of the brewery and a good mexican place on the other. You just phone your order in and they deliver it right to you. The best part is you don't lose your place at the bar so you're good for the rest of the night. I always stay at the Klondike (just a short block away).

Well... here is where we imbibed and ate at:

Prefunc beer: Madonna's Bar and Grill

Dinner: Ester's Mexican

Breakfast: Freckles Gourmet BBQ

Esther's was excellent! The margaritas were tastly and potent.

Breakfast was good as well.

Also - shout out to the Northern Inn - where we stayed. Really a neat hotel, nice people working there.

Thanks all for the input.
