Some timer earlier, I posted about how easy it is to run a SS1k on modern equipment. The Feejer/Bmw/Honda/Aprilla/Ducati bikes are soo good these days that running 1k in 24 isn't what it used to be...

Somewhere on my 2nd (official this time) ss1k run this last summer, I got the wild idea to attempt a ss1k on a vintage bike.. Ya'll may remember vintage bikes.. points, 6 volt electrical systems, drum brakes and small gas tanks.., horns that go beep beep beep...

Which got me thinking.. I have a 'restorable' 1962 BMW R60/2 in the shop waiting for a little TLC/$$/Time to make her roadworthy again.

No, that's not me... and mine has a Wixom brothers fairing on the front...

Soo... any of you modern day feejer pilots have an old gurl you want/are about to/ restore?

...or am I barking up the wrong forum?

Oh, and for Iggie's sake, please stay on topic (ASSuming anyone replies)... this thread is about restoring old bikes in your garage... not the ss1k attempt - I'll post separate for that..

..but if you have any old /2's in reasonable shape, I'm very interested..

I have a few I'm on the "verge" of restoring, but not /2s. I am a BMW Club V.P. and have a lot of Airhead data packed away in the recesses of my gourd, behind the limburger and Point Bock. Do you have a /2 specific question? Need parts or an idea of upgrades to do for said SS1K?

68 Zook T20. Bagged in a hunnert pieces now, restoration under way. A 1k though? Not on a bet. Maybe 30 years ago.

Got a 1960 R50 mostly gathering dust since I've gotten the feej. Doesnt need much and starts 2nd kick. Love the lines and simplicity.

I'm with Rad, no long distance on that thing, it feels like a moped.

Parts are fairly easy but not cheap. Good luck and enjoy!

Also picked up a 1968 CA 77 Honda 305 dream as a future old age project. It looks clean but needs a going through.

My Royal Enfield is as done as it is going to get because I still want to use it. If it gets to nice then It will turn into a garage queen. Looking around for a old XS650 to fix up into a retro looking dirt tracker.

I recently picked up a '75 Yammy RD200 to satisfy my need for a little 2-stroke smoke. Its in pretty good shape. Sorry, no pics yet. It gives me something to putt on and putter with in my retirement and something easy for the SO to ride locally. 1000 miles in 24 hrs? How'se about 100 miles in 24 hours?

Pictures! This thread needs pictures! I'll post some up this weekend; should be fun for a before and after comparison.

O'vale - great links - Thank you.

FjRay - would like to see pix of the Royal E...

PickAx - pix brudder, need pix of the r50 of yours..

BurnerGold2b - any experience with converting the 6vdc to 12? I hear they cost about $600, but suddenly you can actually see at night...
