Just curious if anyone knows if the FJR has a REV limiter or what RPM the engine cuts out (stops pulling)
My uh, brother-in-law, yeah, him not me, hits it around 10,100rpm or so. It cuts out 1 or 2 cylinders and it feels like you blew a couple of pistons. He said it was alarming the first couple of times he hit it. Bike is an '05.Edit... seeing Randy's post... am I off 1k or are you? I could've sworn it was north of 10k.

I believe peek power at 8000, limiter at 9000 (but I think it's soft, so you can go a little higher).

Yamaha says that the Gen I hits the first stage of rev limiter at 9.2k rpm where it shuts off two injectors, if you persist it then cuts off all 4 injectors. BTDT, the first time you hit the limiter it leaves you wondering if you just grenaded the engine. I can’t see why Yamaha would have changed the rev limit for the Gen IIs but don’t know for a fact that it remains unchanged.

Excellent! Thanks ALL!

Now I'm just wondering if maxing out my FJR has subsided the "tick" symptoms I've been hearing, cause I dang sure didn't hear any "ticking" after I hit the REV limiter this morning. Will have to listen a little closer on the way home this evening.

Redline is 9 I believe..I wanted to check out the limiter once, and had to go past 10 to hit it. I was so nervous because I assumed it would come just after 9k...so I was like.. do I have one? Maybe it's broke and I am going to grenade this thing...but nope it is there just further into the red than I ever ever go.

Next time, hold the scoot constant at 9,200 rpm for five minutes... end result is "unique" :clapping:

I wasn't exactly looking at my tach when it happened, but I've bounced my 03 off the limiter twice. both times right after a TB synch when the bike was smooth and I dropped the hammer to make a pass. In my expierence it's above 9200 because about once a month I purposely run it up past redline for a brief moment to kind of 'clean it out'. I'm lying. I just like to hear it sing. :)

In any case, I don't back down until the needle is solidly past the 9k mark, usually closer to 9500. This nets me a courtroom inducing speed in most instances and I let it back down to 4k. She sounds like she barely purring after a flirt past redline. maybe I'll pay attention next time I spin it up in the red.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if indicated and actual are 2 different numbers.
Nor would I, although the tach is said to generally be dead on. Anyone else care to comment on tach accuracy.
Just remember... the following is from a letter to Yamaha customers who purchased the all-new 2006 R6:

Dear Yamaha Customer:

Yamaha introduced and marketed the new 2006 YZF-R6 motorcycle with a red line limit of 17,500 RPM, as indicated on the tachometer. After testing production units, we have determined that the actual red line limit is approximately 16,000 RPM, resulting in a tachometer error of roughly 9%. This has no affect whatsoever on the performance of the motorcycle.

So "if" the tach on the FJR is off by 9% as well, then does that mean my bike is really only turning 3600-ish RPM at 70mph, rather than the indicated 4k? and if my speedo is also off, and indicated 70 is actually about 66-67, then not only am I not going as fast I i think I am, but the motor is also turning slower as well. Augh, my brain hurts.
